Scored a few freebies today. This ratchet has no markings that I could find.It did come with a older SO -G- socket & a Ampco W272 socket which makes me think the ratchet might be govt issue?

Looks like an old Walden ratchet to me. If it's a 3/8", perhaps a Walden 4050. :dunno:

The handle screams walden, while the head screams herbrand.

I agree with ya, Jason. I'm right now looking at my old 1/2" Herbrand and my no name ratchet that looks almost exactly like Cam's pic. My lever is different, but what looks just like the Herbrand and is on the no name is the layout of the head screws.

Post #90 of the Ratchet **** thread, shows 2 different styles of reversing levers on the 1/2" drive Waldens in the pic:

It's a Walden - I have a Walden Worchester 2816 that could sub as a body double for the one pictured. The Herbrand S-10 head is close in shape, but there's a very slight difference in the shape of the coverplate. If you measure the coverplate across the upper screw holes, the Walden should be @ 1 3/8" wide, the Herbrand S-10 is @ 1 1/4".

My WW is marked with raised lettering inside on both sides of the beam - brand on one side, model # and "made in USA" on the other. I've seen, and have, a Walden or two that have the info lightly engraved around the handle - gets worn down/away with use. It seems that sometimes the raised beam lettering on Walden's is also susceptible to getting worn down over time as well, although the pics look like it was never there.
