Just guessing .. The long pointed wooden end sticks in to hay or straw bale or stack.. ?? The 4" metal rod on the other end is a handle so the whole thing cranks around..?? maybe to tighten a rope over a stack to hold thatch or a sheet ..?? or to roll up a bundle of hay..?? and the 8" movable spike sticks in to whatever is being turned or rolled up...?? but i dunno..
I've been looking at old barn tools all my life but i don't recognise that one!
It will be interesting to see if anyone knows what it is!
Wild *** guess, is it a tool for opening gates or valves to control the flow of grain to different bins or a sacking machine? A lot of different building could be called a grainery depending on location and the use of the farm. Do you know what the grainery was used for and maybe a couple of pictures of it and a rough location? I know that the hoppers/grain bins in my grandfathers 'grainery' were controlled by a large lever that opened and closed the doors on the bottom of them.
