Hey Everyone.

I came across this "Magnum" box which is a KMS tools house brand.. AKA Slapped their label on it. I have found out it comes from a chinese manufacturer(Tongrun) and they used to supply a brand called Torin. Im trying to find some more information on it can anyone help!? These are the specs.

55" wide, 30"deep, 6' tall. 20 drawer, its 18g , all the drawers have rolled edges, ball bearing slides, the entire length of the handle is a drawer latch, the casters are all spring loaded and the bottom cab its reinforced by square tubing.

Honestly the quality feels far superior to that of a craftsman, mastercraft, international.. From what i have felt. The drawers slide FREE and easy and there is absolutely zero play or sloppiness in the drawers.

What im trying to figure out is the type of slides! The main socket drawer only has one slide on either side but the slides like 4" thick(pic below).. What are your opinions on single slide socket drawers??

Im just really on the fence on this box because it looks like a Harbour Freight box! but the overall quality feels ALOT different and higher end.. for instance, HF boxes have a plastic clip latch on the right side of the drawer handles. The magnum has an aluminium latch that's full length. If you close a HF box by pushing on the left edge the drawer will close crooked,or not close. This magnum if you push the left edge both slides engage and closes straight..

PLEasE! let me know your opinions.. OR if you have any information to offer!

Thanks!
DaVinci

I looked at the Tongrun catalog a while ago and I am pretty sure they make the HF boxes. They are now Tongrun Jiangsu. They were formerly Tongrun Torin. That is the same Torin that makes the Torin Big Red jacks. I have the HF 44" set and I am glad I bought it. You are right; this seems to be a higher end model. Tongrun is a huge company and seems to crank out most of the Chinese boxes and carts we see here. It looks like a very nice box. If the price is decent buy it. What is your concern? The customer support from KMS can't be any worse than HF. If you want a testimonial, you are looking for somebody who bought it and follows this forum. I would guess KMS does not sell nearly as many as HF and the odds would not be good.

KMS is a Canadian store and they sell a variety of tools ranging in quality. My concern is i don't want to spend an arm and a leg for that box if its a HF replica lol!! Its $3400 CDN. It is high for sure.. but ive yet to see a box in Canada with those specs (size and metal gauge) at a lower price..

TCA is the closest. A bit higher quality and a bit more money.. comin in a 6k

I did some research today and found out the Drawer slides are rated for 500lbs. (for the largest drawer).

All that being said, yes $3400 is steep but, if i was to buy a box off strictly toolboxes.com at $2600USD for something similar. the Exchange rate, shipping, and import fees would put me at $4k anyways..

Wow.....well it's your money and I have no idea who made it but it would be a cold day before I'd be spending that kind of money on a box. Just my opinion.

My Snap On box's lock-n-roll is plastic too.
That aluminum latch reminds me a lot of the Craftsman grip-latch. Some people love it, some hate it.

Oh really?

Personally I like the full length latch. And, handles can always be changed down the road if i don't like them.
