Looking for info on this compressor/compressor-head.
Very nicely built and runs strong.

Oddly enough, the label on the tank has no manufacturer name, but just the pressure test and vessel manufacturer info. It says
Ser. Number: MC 004973
Pressure tested to 160 psig
Manchester, Ontario
1993

The motor is a Baldor, 1.5hp
115/220-230VAC
18/9.5-9A
1720 rpm

I always enjoy the wealth of info/knowledge on this site. Any guidance appreciated.

Cheers

Looks like a Chinook K17 or a Rol Air K17 Aluminum.

Amazing - response in less than 10 minutes!

I looked up some pics of both the Chinook and Rol Air and it looks closer to the Chinook K17, although not exact. The exhaust valves are on the opposite end and the location of the oil sight glass is slightly different, but this is the closest I have come to seeing anything identical to this.

Thanks

That unit is a single stage pump, so keep in mind that it is reversable. The exhaust and suction could be on oppisite sides simply by pulling the head bolts and rotating the head and valve plate 180 degrees. Chinook always changed the style/look of the sight glass. they also played with fin design on the aftercooler K17 and intercooler and aftercooler on the K25/K30 models.

Interesting. So Chinook K17 it is.

Is this a good pump? Why cant I find much info on the internet about it? There is very limited info comapred to some of the other older pumps such as Kellog, DeVillbis...etc
I absolutely love this machine. Very quiet and pumps up the 20 gal tank in under 2 minutes...

Chinook compressors are awesome pumps. To give you an idea on how well they work here is a short story... 12 years ago, I had a very good body man ask me to build him a really fast recovery piston compressor. He did not want a screw compressor, so I got to work. Took a stubby 120 gallon vertical tank and mounted a K30 Chinook pump. Used a high RPM Magnatek 7.5 HP motor and dialed compressor RPM in at 1320. Yes I know it was really wheeling. That compressor would pump that tank from 0 to 175 PSI in 4 minutes 28 seconds. He used that pump for 6 years before it fried the motor. By then he had enough cash to afford the 20 HP Kaeser screw compressor he has now which makes more noise than that chinook. There is a company called "Big Red Air Machine" who builds compressors for Snap-On. At one point in time they used chinooks in some of their direct drive machines. I do not know if they still do or not. Another great pump that makes air as fast as the K30 is a IMC T39 Pump but it is much noiser.
