Can anyone identify this filter wrench?

Borrowed it from my boss to loosen an unusually recalcitrant oil filter and I found it very effective. When I asked him where he got it, he shrugged and said “I dunno”

No branding or anything like that. It’s a little well-made for a DIY tool but I’m not ruling it out. Hell, if I can’t find a version to buy, I might just try and make one myself.

Anybody recognize it?

looks relatively low production ,or at least made with a lot of off the shelf parts , albeit probably effective as you found out. some folks on here that wanted to put their mind to it could replicate that quite easily I think .

Lol, that took all of ten minutes. Nice job guys. So, at $25 is this a good one to buy? What were you working on? It seems like you would need really good filter access

It was on a Cummins X15, a 15L semi-truck engine. Got a big ol oil filter and it was on real tight. This filter wrench is probably be a little bulky for automotive use, though. Maybe the FACOM shown above would work?

What I liked about it was you could dial the clamping force in, little by little. Once it’s set, you’re free to focus on cranking the filter loose without worrying about slipping. It applies a tight grip evenly so the filter doesn’t get damaged. Works for installation too, just gotta mind the clamping force.

I think it’s a better option than oil filter pliers, put it that way. Not really a “must have”, though.

I don't own or work on anything that would fit.

I use this style:

Broached for a 3/8" drive. I haven't found a filter it won't reach. Sometimes takes some creativity with extensions and u-joints, but it'll git 'er done.

It's also night onto indispensable for working on these:

This is the only style I care to use. They make a bigger variant. If I need anything bigger than that, I use a Ridgid strap wrench.

I think they come in several sizes. This one fits most of what I need it to--including the Coleman 502 stoves, of which I have another coming soon.

Don't be "that guy";)
Believe me, I agree but if my boss wants it tight, tight is what he gets. I’m the poor sap who’ll be taking it off 15k miles from now so no innocent mechanics will be harmed during this production

We had these at the jiffy lube but i could never get them to grip. Likely user error.

That's how I felt about the 3-legged variants. I know some people like them but I could never get them to work.
