Can anyone identify this old tool box?

bought this recently. no markings on it, no badges or holes where a badge was. It appears to have had a sliding bottom panel on it when new which is missing now.

I bought it anyway because it was the right size, i love the color. and it is not flimsy.

the drawers just slide on tracks, no wheels on the tracks. no obvious way the drawers come out.

it has a key lock.(no key). there is a code on the front of the lock cylinder. it looks like it only locks the top drawer but i could be wrong.

I do like it though. ideally id like to identify it and find a bottom panel for it (long shot i know but anything is possible on garage forum).

but what brand and model is it?

Most toolbox locks are like these, many selections available.

looks like the key is broke off in the lock. if i did manage to get it out, is that number useful for getting a new key made?

Look at some of the key images which pop up for a Google search. Yours looks symmetrical double sided. None that show up seem that way. I would plan on replacing the cylinder.

so the lock since it has a broken off key in it freely turns with help from the flat bladed screwdriver. course that doesnt matter since the lock needs to engage with the folding front panel which i dont have (yet. crossing fingers) and yes someone clearly started drilling it out. probably until they realized it turns freely as is (since broke key still in it).

I have a lock set with a key busted off inside. Nothing easy seemed to want to move it. It's been set aside for a day when I feel like a small fiddly project.

so all i need is to get the broken off key out, have a new key made either by code or by copying the broken fragment (which works) and then locate a folding front panel for her and she will be complete. 1956 from what i can make out online. there must be some Huot extremists on here that have an extra folding panel laying around.

^ I had forgotten I never "checked out" on that site.. I still had the keys in my "cart". So they just got ordered - three keys = $30 bucks with tax.
I most likely won't even start on that box until spring - it's too wet out to work on stuff like that now, and I don't have an indoor work area to tackle stuff like that. It's in good shape but the bottom is rusted... like they had it sitting on a wet floor.

Kinda like you did. Couple of dental picks to see if it moves, then hemostats, needle nose pliers, gravity, etc will have to see what it takes.

Of course, I looked harder at that picture, and my purchase history. It looks like there is no longer a key stub in there, and I already ordered keys. So maybe I did get it out, using the methods suggested. Too much chaos right now. Which could explain why I had two dental picks on one of the desks in the house.☹️

Hey all, while ordering keys for my Craftsman by Waterloo box, I was looking for things to get me to the free shipping mark, they carry broken key extractors.

Have not used them, hope I never need to, but I bought them. First two, EZ1 & 2.

They are small and thin, so easy to lose. Gonna but them with all my other lock related stuff.
