Can anyone identify this Stevens Walden tool and its function?

Sifting through a tool chest I found this set in a tin box marked Stevens Walden. It has a weighty grip that's free to slide back and forth and is not retained (you can slide it right off). Sorta like a small slide hammer but there's no stop. The other end accepts different size ends that thread into the central rod. Looks like it could function as a sort of small bushing driver but with the smallest two ends the sliding weight slides right over them. Haven't been able to locate any leads so I'm curious as to what it's used for!

Makes sense. The toolbox belonged to the late father of a friend of mine who was a heavy duty mechanic many years ago. I've found some interesting tools in there. I think one more mystery has been solved. Thanks for the replies.

It resides in the same category as "distributors, points and condensors" Or as today's teens might say.... HUH?
