cotter pin pusher...

it has the shape of an oblong rivet flattener on the end of the ram. Could it be the 1st. pop rivet gun?

Close, I'l say it is to close a split ring or link; that would be terribly awkward for upholstery work, when hog ring pliers are so easy and cheap.

It looks like at some point it was a puller for something but it has been modified for another use, it looks cut and welded all over. Were did the guy get it? :dunno:

Maybe a specialty valve spring compressor?Dimensions or something to scale it too might help our imaginations work.

It looks like it might be for setting rivets. The ones that are put in red hot. Although I can't think of how you'd use it...

+1 on the cotter pin pusher.

. . . . OR . . . .

Maybe instead a Tapered Keyway pusher based on shape of push bar. :dunno:

Need something to show scale. Is that 2 inch tool or 10 inch ??

I'll get some scale pics next week at work. It was found in the trunk of a junk car that went to the crusher. It doesn't appear to have been modified, but there appears to be a piece broken off and missing. For ideas, we have a military base and aviation college, and several places that work on helicopters in the area. Could it be aviation related? We may never know.

Started upholstery in '72. Always used pliers for hog rings.

Ya man understood, I've done it many times myself. But what it seems several guys don't get is that hog rings are used for more then just upholstery work. I just spent the last three years building a high security prison and we used hog rings for the razor wire installations that were high tensile strength 9 gauge and all though the installers used tongue and grove pliers, I have no doubt someone makes a tool for these. Considering the OP mentioned the military connection, who knows. Could be constantine wire hog rings, chain link compressor, **** anyones guess. :D

It is used in Tattoo shops...When A customer comes in and he wants something done to his "JUNK" out comes that special "TOOL" and the look on their face is priceless!

Not sure just what it is but closing rings would be my guess; although I sure would like to see the face of a tattoo customer if that tool was ever pulled out of some drawer.:scared:
