You guys seem pretty high on your Wilton vise's so I'm hoping someone here can give me information on this vise. I found it in the garage that I'm planning on turning into a car shop. On one side it has "WILTON" cast into it, and on the other it has:

JAW WIDTH 3 1/2
JAW OPENING 3
MADE IN USA

It needs new jaw inserts and some paint, but other than that, it is in decent shape ready to be used. Does anyone know where I can get new jaw inserts? I'm just really confused at the moment because it doesn't look anything like the other Wilton's that have been posted on here.

It's just one of Wilton's older economy models. I don't know if they ever had model numbers, or if they were just listed by size. In any case, there's probably not parts support available, and if there was the jaws would likely cost you more from Wilton than that vise is worth.

You may end up just making some new jaws yourself, or adapting some from another vise. I wouldn't spend a huge amount on that vise.

Interesting. I just thought it would be nice to have because of it's small size to compliment the much larger vise I'm picking up this weekend.

I do not have a mill, nor do I have access to one. How hard is it to make new jaws?

That, my friend, is a Wilton 535 made when the DIY market started to boom in the 70's. That was Wilton's low end vise for your home bench. Don't go sinking too much $$ into that one. I sold this one new and only got about $30 for it. Its still very usable.

Hi all..can you help me identify the model of this Wilton vise?..the date stamp on the key is 11-52
the letters are "HD" and Chicago USA

The only defect is a single broken mounting pad. I picked it up at a local pawn shop for $27.
I am hoping this deal merits even a single "you ****" as it would mean a lot. :)

oh! by the way, you were all so kind and knowledgeable helping me sort out my Wilton CO..thanks again AUTOPTS for directing me to a set of pipe jaws and copper vise covers.
I love that vise. Its a beautiful reminder of "the way things use to be built."

Anytime I can help Walt I will, Thats second generation very early 9300/9350/9400 whatever width the jaws are. That should clean up nicely. Its hard to believe that vise will turn 60 in a year. That cracked off ear is nothin..Nice find!!

Hi all..

Just confirming Nicks earlier note as I am hunting a base for my 1952 model 8440 with the broken ear.

"The swivel bases are the same for all the 400S, 450S & 500S and can be interchanged onto the older 8400/9400. 101028. 9450/101033 and also 9500/101031. All the same base and ring..The handles will interchange on the 4" & the 4 1/2" except for the length but not on the 5".

Still ok info? thanks again walt

You could remove the base and still mount it to a bench, a nice score for sure.

A well earned "YOU ****" for $27.00

Walt, if you can wait it out, occasionally a broken Wilton on a swivel comes around you might be able to grab. The replacement base alone new is about $40 and the inner ring with small dowel pin is anouther $40. Thats not including handles either. Mucho
