Does anyone have a recommendation for a good model of manual staple gun?

The cocking mechanism in my last one broke so I went to home depot today and bought a $20 Dewalt hand stapler. It's going back to the store tommorow. I was not impressed.

Does anyone have a stapler that will a) drive the staples deep into wood b) operate smoothly.

I've always been disappointed with any stapler I've ever owned.

Thanks,
Spud

Duo Fast CS 5000 will drive 5/16" staples flush into oak ( I just tried). I had to take a utility knife to mine to find the model number, its so gummed up with spray glue, and it still will fire staples with out jamming.

I bought a couple of Arrow guns (model T50 & a model T2025) after being disappointed with my Craftsman staple gun. The Arrow guns have worked well for me, but I really don't do a ton of stapling.

the Arrow T50 gun is good (American made) and you can find staples at every home center in multiple sizes. I've just had a couple of them break over the years do to abuse (I still have one that is zip tied together because one of the pins fell out, and it still works, but jams once in a while). It may be just my luck with them, but I haven't broken a Duo Fast (also American made). I get my staples for it at my drywall supply house, which is fine for me, but may not work for you.

I've got a couple of Arrow T50 type staplers and an Arrow hammer stapler which all work well, but I bought a no-name air stapler from Menards last year for something like $10 or $12.

Started using it last week to reinstall my Soffit and I don't think I'll ever use the squeeze type stapler again.

I second the suggestion of an air stapler. I went through a few of the basic staple guns when doing my building and wasn't impressed with any of them. They would jam or not drive the staple all the way in. It was a real pain in my ***.

I got a hitachi pnuematic staple gun at a professional tool co that was a refurb. I think it was $65 for a $150 stapler. I also bought a HF nail gun at the same time for that project. Needless to say the HF nail gun shot a nail crooked and double shot when it decided to shoot at all, which was about every 3rd try. The hitachi staple gun went through a box of staples with very consistent depth control and never a jam or misfire. I was really impressed with it.

I have several Surebonder's from Menards... they fire T50 staples and run from $10-20 on sale at Menards. Love them. Will never go back to firing by hand!

I've got a Powershot that I like. I don't know the model number off hand but I bought it at Home Depot a year or two ago. By turning the gun around so you are squeezing the trigger over the staple that's firing, you get less recoil and staple seems to go into wood more consistently.

Arrow T50 stapler is the old die-hard. Can't go wrong with it.

Same staples fit in hammer tacker for roofing which is also a must have tool.

Duo Fast or Arrow are good. Whatever you do avoid Swingline - they're ****.

That was my experience with Porter Cable, and the reason for the question.

I received a Craftsman Professional stapler one year for Christmas...Definetly not something I would have bought myself (I would have bought the Arrow T50 for myself. My dad has one older then I am and its never missed a shot)...But this CMan Pro is amazingly ergonomic and works excellent. I actually like the design more now then ever before (had to hang 3100 sq/ft of faced insulation...wall & overhead)

I have the same staple gun, but not the same experience... mine fires "blanks" 4-5 times for every time it actually fires a staple.

I'm using Arrow brand 3/8" staples. What are you using?!

While on the subject how about pneumatic guns whats a good brand?

can't go wrong with Hitachi IMO.
We use the narrow crown for stapling underlay. Easily over a hundred thousand staples per year, keep them oiled, the only issue in 1 gun replaced the ribbon feeder spring, and in another stapler replaced the piston & driver . parts are readily available. DIY replaceable / total cost was $30 for parts from erplacentparts.com

I have a couple of Mastercraft staplers (large & small) that are similar to the Craftsman pictured above. I prefer staplers that have handles that are hinged at the rear vs. the more conventional type. I find it much easier to apply pressure with your hand over the area where the staple "exits" the gun.

I also have a Surebonder air stapler that is "tiny" and works great as well as a Stanley electric stapler which I find to be a bit clumsy.

Um... .02$

The old arrows are rock solid...

The new ones **** worse than a Chinese .99$ special...

Lost my old t2025 - replaced with "new" replaced 3x since - I can't get more than 5-10 staples before I have to clear a jam...

I wish I could find another 10+ yr old one at a garage sale...

I picked up an electric Stanley stapler. I used it to put up 9 batts so far in the ceiling. I'm wondering why I didn't spend the 30 bucks to buy one sooner.

for a pneumatic stapler, i have gotten some Fasco staplers, really decently priced and work well. had purchased them online after a search for that particular brand and had found this website called floyd tools.

Hmm...Nothing special..I usually use "Quality/Cheap" staples. Typically its been Genuine Arrow T50 Staples, it ate a a box of Bostitch branded staples with no issue, and currently its got DeWalt branded staples in it (all 3/8").

Seconded. You can get your weight over the staple and they sink all the way instead of standing 1/16" proud. I thought the Powershot was a gimmick at first but it really has worked out better for me.
