Can anyone recommend a hex bit organizer?

I googled them and searched amazon. Only one viable option came up and most reviews say the magnet is very weak. It's a long red one on amazon.

I have a metric and standard nut driver hex bit set from craftsman which came in a large craftsman mechanics set i purchased a couple years ago. To this day they are srill in a bag, bouncing around the drawer.

If you need a bit set organizer that's portable you can buy a clam shell box.

Not cheap tho, maybe $10-15 bucks.

I prefer these two:

The VIM Magrail bit holder isn't cheap but, you won't find a better bit holder.

Cal Van used to makes a handy one that won't break the bank. the part that holds the bits isn't magnetic if that's important to you.

Is the VIM stronger than the timesaver? I have the timesaver mounted vertically on my tool cart, no problems yet but could always use a stronger magnet.

The VIM socket magrails had a review which I believ said VIM magnets were almost too strong. So if thats what you need might be worth digging into. Believe Strouty started that thread, or maybe he will chime in here.

Yes. I think the magrails are the best thing for cart/drawer organization, not cheap though and they're probably not great for removing from your cart to carry to a job. That's why my cart has wheels:lol:

I don't think MTS are as good as they once were. I'm not sure if they're still US made.

Thanks for the heads up on the Magrail bit holder (didn't know they made a bit holder). Found one on eBay for 18.00 shipped. Hope it's as good as their socket rails.

I pick up bit holders at garage sales.

For the tool chest, I use a couple of the large ones shown below.

For portable use, I pick up the ones that have a "key ring" loop and hold six bits in one line. All the ones I have are red soft plastic like the large one shown. I can't find a picture of them online, and I think they came with a set of bits or included with a driver/drill set.

Both types grip the bit tightly. Sometimes it is a little fight to get the bit out, but they never fall out.

The BitBlocks are removable from the case and the hexbits are held firmly in place while remaining easy to remove.

There's even a spot inside the case for a bit holder.

For an easily portable solution, I really like the Festool Twinbox. Each half holds 5 bit securely. The two halves snap together or can be slipped over a belt or pants pocket. Very handy. Comes with 10 pretty good quality bits.

I purchased those as well and really like them. I had been keeping what I had in those red vinyl soft holders that most of the bits I have came with. I would like to see some different style holders for other tools, one that would permit a bit to be snapped in, allowing the bit to be perpendicular to the base. I have it in a rather shallow drawer and the long bits are to tall.
