Can I add a subpanel to a subpanel?

I have a subpanel in my garage. However, I need to add more outlets and there's no more open slots available in the subpanel. I realize I could order some slim line or tandem breakers and double up. But I'd prefer to add another subpanel off the original subpanel. Is this allowed by code?

Why not just replace the subpanel? They are very cheap, cheaper than a couple tandem breakers even... I just replaced a Square-D 2 slot subpanel with a 6 slot for $19. Tandem breakers were $11.95 each.

If you're dead-set on adding another subpanel, I don't see why you couldn't. It would have to be fed by its own breaker however, which is going to take up 2 spots on the old subpanel anyways...

Sure. You can have as many subpanels feeding supanels as you want, as long as the wire size and breaker match. Replacing the panel would be the cheapest way. But there's nothing wrong/against code to add a subpanel running off the original subpanel. Don't bond the neutral bus to ground.

Thanks for the answers. I already have a second panel. So I was thinking I could "daisy chain" another subpanel right beside the first one. Easy, cheap and fast. (How often do you find those three together?)
