Can I add reverse to THIS drill press question?

I was just recently getting fed up of the 1/2 hp Delta bench drill press I have been using for the last 10 years. As luck would have it I was able to buy one of these as a surplus item locally.
Jet Tools JDP-20MF
http://www.jettools.com/us/en/p/jdp-20mf-20-floor-drill-press-115-230v-1ph/354170.
It came with a Wilton Camlock vise: http://www.wiltontools.com/us/en/p/...ise-1208-8-jaw-width-8-3-16-jaw-opening/13403

The pictures are from where I got it. I did check it out in person and I think it sat for far longer than it was ever used. I paid less for the pair than the vise costs new which is a bonus.
The bearings all seem fine and I will give it a good cleaning and inspection before I do mush else.

So I wonder if I can add a reverse direction to this drill.
The motor can be wired for 115V or 230V per the manual but comes prewired for 115V.
Here is the schematic below.
What do I need to do to determine if it is possible?
The part number for the motor is 8211422651 . I cannot find a manual for the motor.

It depends on how handy you are. As it stands, that looks like a non-reversing motor, with no option for reversing it. If you can bring out leads from both the start and run coils, you may be able to wire up a reversing switch. I've done it before, but you need to open up the motor---not a quick job.

Short answer, Yes you can add a reverse switch to this (not as hard as you think, but requires opening up the motor) and some soldering/crimping and heat shrink to separate the W1 W2 and the starting coil, I did it on my 14" Jet DP last year or two ago... post it here don't remember the link (if I find it, I'll post it)... Some practical machinist link is what I used to help me get over the hump (Not the one posted by larry_g)... on understanding these AC induction motors.... as is right now, your motor wiring diagram, it is only for different voltage 110/220...

Here is the easter egg for this project... if you wire out, I think you'll loose the 110V / 220V selection... because wiring a reverse with an additional DPDT switch is a tat bit different for 110V vs 220V... hope this is not confusing...

you'll also needed some small heat shrinks and fiberglass insulation tubes... if you have anything save from the old coffee makers per say...

What I do...
If the drill press has stepped pulleys, pull the belt off the front pulley, twist it, put it back on.
That "figure 8" belt reverses the spindle direction

This is the link...

This is the practical machinist link I used very good info... but you know modding things like these you are voiding your warranty... I deleted the youtube link of that thing in action... but shouldn't matter... btw , I have not used it even once for a real job since I put that reverse switch in... so... it is fun, it is learning, haven't seen any practical use...

These days, If you want it fancy, you should hunt down a 3Phase 1 or 2 HP and retro fit it in with an Inverter.... Used to be DC motors / Tread mill motors...
