At my work, I will not allow the hourly tire guys to borrow ANYTHING for work purposes. "Oh, you need some side cutters? Go tell the boss to buy you some!" If they are working on their own car, I have a "you tell me what you need, I'll get it for you and it comes back and is put in MY hand" policy.

On the service side, I loan out specialty tools only. Don't ask me to borrow my 8mm wrench because yours is 30 ft away. You want to borrow my hub tamer? Sure...My powerprobe...sure! My 1/2" impact? GFY.

With specialty tools I always come "help" the first time or two to demonstrate proper use.
I won't let the hourly guys barrow nor lend my knowledge if it's a job they shouldn't be doing, or a job that should've gone to a flat rate tech. They want to act like a flat rate guy put the money in like we do and take jobs you know or should be doing.

OP: any thoughts on this!?!?
There will be a ton of different thoughts on this but what is the frustration here? Can you give an example of what has happened to you when you "shared" your tools? Was there mutual benefit while you're working with the person?

I don't say no if someone asks to borrow something.. I might need something of theirs one day.

If you borrow more than once you should own it!

I agree. If I find there's a tool I need to borrow I try to purchase my own when I get home. It's my responsibility to have the tools I need to do my job. I don't mind helping a co-worker in need but if it's something they will need repeatedly I feel they need to get their own. When someone else has my tools they're not available for me to do my job.

Post #80. Furthermore as I also mentioned a certain individual always seems to be spending money on things like new tattoos. Which is fine, but I spend money on stuff like 1" drive tools, to make my job easier. Don't ask to use it for your convenience. Go buy your own set with your tattoo money. If not that's ok. Make do with your 1/2 drive set.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but that's how I feel.
