Mainly just thinking about this right now, so I thought I would get some input.
To start, I use a 10hp phase converter, and have a lot of 3 phase equipment. I bought a ton of plugs and SOOW cable from a closing machine shop that used it to hook up their machines, and used it to hook up my machines. The plugs are Nema L18-20, and have worked great. I only have 1 problem. I have to unplug each machine and plug it in before use since I only have 1 plug coming from the converter, and it gets to be annoying.
I was curious if I could just make a 3 phase power strip out of a L18-20 plug, and say 5 or 6 receptacles? I have a little of the SOOW cable left, and I could make the box from plastic. I know the plugs are not cheap, but I have seen them on ebay sometimes cheap.
This would at least let me have 5 or 6 machines plugged in at once, only 1 would be used at a time. I only use the 3 phase stuff for maybe an hour at a time, I am always in the shop when the converter is running.
If this is not the way to do it, how would I go about it? I don't really want to hardwire everything, I have a habit of moving stuff around quite a bit.
What do you guys think?
