can I run ethyl rubbing alcohol through a utility pump?

Hi I have some parts to clean and (have to clean them with ethyl alcohol) and it would be easist if I could "blast" the parts with high pressured ethyl alcohol spray gun. So I have a pump that I hooked a hose up to and I put a sprayer on it and tested it with water. Filled a bucket and plugged the pump in, and it sprayed out the hose pretty nicley. My question is can I replace the water with the ethyl alcohol or will it catch on fire?

Even the high percentage ethyl rubbing alcohol (70%) is 30% water.
It won't burn.
But HEET or other "de-icers" are a different story.

I wpuld worry about drying out or desolving seals first.

An air pressure style spray gun would be the best.

BS. It'll burn just fine.

I would use a pump sprayer. You know, one of those gallon or so containers with a spray wand and air pump in the lid.

All I can say is I have tried to ignite 70% rubbing alcohol as as a liquid and have not succeeded .

I have put it on a Q-Tip and it will burn.
So, if you have a wick type set up, you may have a problem.

I would guess it is kind of like gasoline in that the liquid will not burn but the vapor will.

So, as a spray, in a controlled environment, I wouldn’t be afraid of it.

As always, keep a fire extinguisher ready, and your mileage may vary.

Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl. Not particularly flammable. Ethyl alcohol is a different story. The term "proof" came to be used for 50% alcohol, 50% water because at that concentration a dish of it will ignite with a match. So, burning a small amount of your batch provided proof that it was strong liquor - at least 100 proof.

Still, I'm not so sure I'd want to be in a mist or fog of even isopropyl. Outdoors, in the open, on a breezy day ... well, maybe.
