Can I run this wire this way?

Hi I want to run two 12/2 romex in the same bay as a 100 amp service cable. There are already a couple of other wires in there. The 100 amp runs down the left stud and a coax cable and one 14/2 runs down the other stud in the same bay. I want to run power for my work bench in the same bay which will be the 2 12/2 romex cables. The power cable and the others run down the center of the 2x4s so I got some cable stackers and took out the two bottom sections so I could slip it around the 100 amp cable. It fits loose in the stacker and the 12/2 romex is seperated from it. ( not crushed tight against it ) Here is what I did to the stacker and one installed to see what you guys think. Please lewt me know if you see any problems with this setup.

Another question what do you guys think of the 2x4' 4 bulb drop in flourescent lights like they use in a drop ceiling for garage use? They have the plexyglass defusors.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Can't see why an inspector would have an issue.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but you have the wires in the center of the stud correct? With 2x4 you need to be very close to the center of the stud.

If the clamps aren't rated for that size wire they might not like it. Especially since they look "custom modified". I guess it really depends on the inspector, as usual...

That clamp is just being used there for tidying. He doesn't need anything really for code. The stackers do satisfy code for clamps required at boxes as far as I know and I use them for that.

I would be more concerned with the 14/2 on top of the coax. I would try to have the coax on one side of the bay and the line power on the other. They should be separated by 12 inches or more.

The garage has already been inspected and passed. The red stackers are in addition to the gray cable staples. The red stackers have a tab that stations them in the right place. You can see it raped around the front of the 2x4 I'll put them in between the staples that already there. They really only support the 12/2. You can see the gray ones in the picture. I just didn't want to make any problems for myself.
MrMark they have been like that for almost 7 months and seem ok. I was suprised the electrician put them together myself.

I like what you did and I would be happy with it. It is not needed but nice, imo. Someone is going to say that you can't modify the clamp and use it and they are probably right. So even though it is not required some stickler might say you can't use it.

Let's hear more about these lights as I didn't follow your question.

Just because the electrician did it doesn't make it right. I doubt he cared or knew or put 10 seconds of thought into it. It was easy so he did it.

You really should move it if possible without tearing too much up. If not, I would certainly understand.

The lights are the ones that are enclosed they have 4 bulbs in each light. He has 9 of them and my garage is 22wx26d. I figure I'll check to see if he still has them. $5 ea.

Not sure if flush mount will loose any brightness compaired to surface mount.

I have a bunch of 2 bulb troffers that are similar to those in my barn. Downstairs, I have 10' ceilings and I've got most of them just screwed to the ceiling. Over the workbench, they're hanging on some light chain. Upstairs, the ceilings are much higher, so I've got them hanging about 7' from the floor. They work great. I'd originally planned to remove the plexiglass diffusers, but the light is plenty bright with them on and there's less glare... not to mention the reduced possibility of breaking the bulbs.

Those are 2X4 Troffers for suspended ceilings. You can't put them in a 14.5 joist cavity. You propose to hang them from the ceiling? They would look stupid sitting on top of the ceiling in my opinion. I don't know how you are going to flush mount them. If you can with a dropped ceiling or something they would look awesome. Best look of all.

Are these $5 lights 120 VAC or 277VAC? I too would get the coax, or any other low voltage, especially signal carrying low voltage, away from the romex.

I just followed the Romex back and it is for the smoke alarm. I don't think it carries much voltage. The cable service has been fine so far. My roof trusses are 2' on center.

A smoke alarm will be 120V, and it's not so much the voltage/current that matters, but the noise and frequency. I'd leave it though, modern digital TV/cable/satellite/etc. is not that sensitive, RG6 (Especially quad shield) is far better at preventing noise, etc. As long as you're not using the coax for line-level audio (I do have some RCA run with quad shield RCA connectors), you'll be fine. Line-level audio are low frequencies which include the 60HZ of the AC waveform itself, so the noise is easily reproduced.
