I am currently wiring my detached garage and have come across some wire that was a great deal 35ft for $25... I just need to see if/how I can use it for my purposes...
I need to run a set of cables about 15' from my 200A panel through(inside) the wall to where my Welding outlet is going. I also need to go about 10' from my panel to where I'm installing a tankless water heater that requires 60A breaker/wire. I came across +/-35ft of "c type SE cable style U type xhhw cdrs 300 Volts to ground #4 CU-#6 CU" (2-#4 hots and #6 ground I assume) that's all that's on the cable... It is in a thick Gray plastic covering.
per this info sheet http://cerrowire.com/files/file/Spec%20Sheet%20Book2-6-2012.pdf SEU is ok to use within a building as is the XHHW part.
How do I properly install without running a conduit on the wall surface?
Can I run this inside a wall as is, or should I strip off the sheathing and run it through a conduit, or run it through a conduit as is? There are so many cable types The rules are a but confusing.
As long as the Amperage for the draw is correct why are there so many rules for so many different wire types?
I do understand that the different wire insulation hold heat differently and could potentially overheat and cause a fire, is that it though?
I just finished running 35' #4-THHN (individual fat wires) through a conduit to the opposite end of the garage where I want my 10KW eater mounted and I'm pretty sure I followed code by running it in conduit...
any info is greatly appreciated Thanks!
