I would like to know if its possible to take a NM 6 - 3 indoor wire out of my sub panel and run it across my finished garage ceiling and down the other wall. I know it needs attached every 4' 6" and 8" from the box but will it be ok. I want to use conduit but time and cash right now is tuff and I am also going to be redoing a lot of the garage this next summer so this would be for now only It will be feeding a new compressor I have. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Legally probably not, in my barn I would do it for temp permanent, but that's me. It's one of those, eventuallies that might happen and might not. Is it gonna burn up the place? Probably not. Is it professional? Absolutely not!

It depends on whether it will be subject to damage.

Also, your AHJ may have local amendments that dictate otherwise.

What is the HP rating on the compressor?

Not any chance of damage reslly. The compressor is a 7.5 hp 80 gallon tank it has a magnetic starter and the flashlight is 32 30. I know it's not pretty but I am almost certain code allows it. Maybe I'm wrong but everything I read says should be ok.

If you are coming down a stud wall, you can just enclose the stud cavity that the cable is in, or as suggested use some cheap pvc conduit.
