Just like the title says. Would hate to put these out to pasture since handles and blades are in such good shape. Just dull. If anyone knows who provides this service please lmk. Thank u

I have a well used pair of Ideal 9” cable cutters that got dull and chewed up from use and I sharpened them with a fresh new round file. I just clamped them in a vise and went against the grain matching the angle and arc profile of each cutter with my file strokes and it actually turned out very well.

As above I would not touch the flat face. Work on the beveled edge to freshen it up.

Depending on the depth of the gouges or dullness I'd go with a handheld stone to finish it up....India stone, diemaker's stone, etc.

Keep in mind your best edge is not always a needle-sharp one. Just as flush cut pliers with their razor edge can't stand up to heavy work, the scary sharp edge isn't the best for a tool which is a pretty rough cutter.

I can't speak to Klein specifically, but I dressed up a pair of Channellocks with a round diamond file. Same basic method as redwrench60. Cuts as well as my Klein cutters.

Should be sharpenable. If you remove so much edge that the jaws don't close all the way, you can take a bit off the nub between the handles, but do so at the risk of pinching your fingers.

The only time to touch the flat face is if there are burr protruding in to it which need to be removed, but otherwise leave it alone, as Matt said.

Thank you for the replies I used a round file and now they are good as new. That’s why I love this community. I feel better about buying these for $40 5 years ago now.
