I thought it was kind of cool looking, but have very little vise knowledge. Looks like somebody has tried to paint it?

thanks

Yeah, its a Taskmaster. I had one. Made in India. Sturdy, but not a Wilton.

I have one of these. My camera isn't working now. Color is some unusual shade of bluish green.

On this side of the anvil there is a sticker with:
MFG DATE 1981 10HK
S E R No 007050

Apparently there was a sticker on the other side but it's long gone.

All the Taskmaster vises I found pix for had "Taskmaster" molded into the side of the vise. Did they actually make this without it?

Other than the prominent "4", I can't find any other markings.

If everything is in good usuable condition and you really like the vise, probably. One caveat - there are no "gear teeth" in the swivel, so if you put a lot of pressure on something, the vise will turn. Of course in a vise this small, I don't know if that should matter. If anybody says $20 is way too much, then he needs to give you a link to one in this size and configuration that is better.

Around here vises seldom appear on Craigslist and in auctions, garage, and estate sales.

ya, I think I'll hold out for something else. Slightly bigger would be good. Finding a decent vise is feeling needle/haystack like...

thanks for all the input. I'm still trying to learn how to spot the 'decent' ones. Not a huge CL volume here...but, hopefully, something will come up.

I think $20 is a good deal. Its a good beater vise. You can always sell it or trade with it later.

Here's the one I bought and later cleaned up. Sold for $65:
