Can someone identify these?

This is a device that applies resistance to a coolant circuit in my car, to tell if the coolant gauge is working properly. The switch has three positions and Each position puts more resistance on the circuit. I see the Resistor but what are those 2 other black cylinders? I think they are capacitors. I believe one of them is bad because I dont get continuity across one of them but the other one I do (my diagnosis could be wrong though). Any help in identifying those two black cylinders I'd appreciate it. Thanks

It wouldn't make sense to have two capacitors. If the wafer switch has three positions it would have 3 resistors. Each position gives a different resistance for meter check. If I had pictures of those two parts all the way around I could tell more about it.
Larger of three looks like 10 ohms, about 20 Watts. Home made apparently.

One resistor looks like 22.8 ohms, 1%. Precision resistors look different like that.
If you had one variable resistor (potentiometer), like 100 ohms 20 to 30 Watts you could replace that...two wires from center to one end. Just for meter testing you only want it connected a few minutes (otherwise overheat-damage the pot).

I think you've already gotten your answer, but since you have the components in hand you may be able to find out more about them by plugging in the info into one of the various Datasheet engines on the web. I usually use the one from IEEE GlobalSpec (datasheets360.com)
