Do you think that I can save this bolt if I run a thread chaser over it. It's from the upper rear control arm on my 65 Galaxie.

as you can see it's flat on one side and adjust the angle of the rear end.

I would say it can be saved ; I've never used a thread chaser but I've saved similar specialty bolts with a tap and die set. Just be careful and patient.

Usually when that happens the cam at that end is stripped out too. Moog used to make replacement kits for them don't know if they are still available. If you don't replace the bolt and cam who ever aligns that is going to have problems.

If your extremely careful, a thread file might help. I have both, metric and fractional, plus one that looks like a knife. Those threads near the head are going to be the most trying. This is just my .02.

Does the nut land on that messed up part of the threads, or is that section worn from rubbing against the mounting bracket?

I'd have to check, been at work for for the last two days and haven't been in the shop. I think it just might but like Milton Shaw ststed above I think the cam might be a little worn too. If I could fine a replacement that would be great.

I would not trust it again if it fits something threaded unless you can double nut it. You may have a problem with the nut it threads into too.

I did some research and tell us if this is what you have. On the rear axle there is a control rod that holds the banjo so the differential pinion is at a set angle. Effectively it controls wheel hop. You adjust the length of that control arm to control the way the banjo sits. If so that is apparently a weak area and prone to failure so most of the parts shops sell an adjustable tubular link that is firmly bolted at either end and the angle of the pinion is controlled by lengthening or shortening the replacement like a drag link.

I could not find the originals anywhere but then I am not a 65 Ford guy. The photos of that part in a few threads show there is a small weld on the head of the bolt to the cam washer. If so, and you are unable to find one and do not want to replace it with an upgraded part, you could grind the weld, knock the cam washer off, grind a flat carefully on a new grade 8 bolt KEEPING IT COOL so you don't change the temper and use that. There is also a special locking nut so it is probably pooched too.

these folks also sell old ford parts

The WASHERS MIGHT be this part http://www.nospartsltd.com/product-p/c5az5a637a.htm

I thought I was the only guy that used those things ;). I tell other folks about them and they give me a funny look.

Middle of nowhere.
Looks to me that the threaded end is worn down from the nut nut being tight. Looks just like the ones from my sons 95 Yahoe that came loose.

I would replace it. But, I never go cheap on brakes or front end parts.

How about a Ford forum on the Internet. I know therebis a site for Chevy. You are not the first person to have this problem. The answer is out there.

I've sen the tubular arms upper and lower but I have so much invested in these since I boxed them in and added poly bushing to them that I'd hate to not use them. if I had known about the tubular ones before I built thses I would have no problem doing it.

Like someone else said, if no luck finding one go get the appropriate grade 8 bolt and machine a flat. Make 2?

It should be fine its where the eccentric washer rides because the shoulder does not come all the way through.

That camber lit link 1967marti posted is what I use on the race cars. Front lower control arms on Mustang/Falcon/Fairlane use the same thing as the back end of your Gal.
