Sure. It’s a SPDT switch, like used to control a single light via 2 switches. Just use the center pole and one of the throws. You might wind up with down as on and up as off. Just swap the throw if that’s the case.
yes , use the black screw & one of the silver screws . as mentioned if for example "off" is the wrong way, switch the silver screws, or rotate the switch 180°

What about decora switches? I may have used a three way or fifty in place of a single pole in the past.Technically, no b/c it's supposed to be labeled on/off. ( yes I know 3way and 4 way switches aren't/can't be labeled.)

silver is for neutrals. the screws on a switch are either black or brass

Ok , never mind, I went and bought a simple 2 screw on off in line switch. $.98 so I bought a spare . Lol . I needed an excuse to go spend time in Lowe’s. Can’t believe I walked out of there for less than $5 and had 2 switches, a cover plate and a receptacle.
