I'm thinking of making use of my AC air handler as a whole house fan, what do you think?
In order to vent the attic and draw in cool evening fresh air on the open ground floor. Why couldn't I use the AC air handler "return" as suction and divert ( uncooled) air handler, output, into the attic (without calling for COLD) to vent the attic, let it exhaust via ridge and soffit vents.
My home has AC only in upstais. Every roomhas a "returns' and there is a large central hallway "return'.
Does this make sense?

What size is the unit? I have a 36" fan and there were certain roof vent requirements.

What is the goal?

Typically, air handlers run at a lower airflow than a typical 'whole house fan'.

It makes sense to me and I see no reason why it wouldn't work. The only real gotcha is whether or not the air handler can move enough CFM to do the job. I'm betting it will be big enough. You may want to come up with some way to quickly undo the conversion for those scorcher days when you need the AC.
