This site says you can. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/gasvent.html

It also says no sealant needed. (to answer your other question)

WOW! That was perfect. Cleared up everything. THANX!:bounce: Someone had mentioned you couldn't cut it but I couldn't see why as long as you don't harm the gasket end. I imagine sheet metal shears would do the job?

AS for the sealant it never hurts I guess. But my problem was asked in another question because it doesn't seem to fit too well onto the modine exhaust.

That's site is noting a special version of the vent pipe. Mine had a sticker on it that said 'do not cut'..... I guess if you welded the seam back up you'd be ok.....

Mine had nothing on it. I guess I could ask the Pl suppy place I got it but they didn't know they made z-vent appliance adapters.

I don't think taking off an end would hurt the weld?

Seems like regular 'ol z-vent to me? Is yours older?

a year old now - maybe I just bought the 'piece of junk' brand that self destructs when touched with shears. I didn't have much choice when I bought mine - it was the last one left.....

Wel I returned my 4' and elbow z-vent and got a 3' footer and lop 6" off. They didn't have 18" in only 12" or else I would have got both oth them to get 30". The gasket is about 2" down connections so cut end will never even come close to the gasket.

Its just the adapter to the heater that has me worried.

I used Simpson Dura-Vent type b vent pipe on my Hot Dawg. They make a "draft hood connector". This is the piece that attactches directly to the appliance and then converts to the double wall pipe. I would think Z Vent would make a similiar piece.
