Can we PLEASE get an automatic image resizer?

It seems like half of the threads on the forum have images that are way too big for the screen and get stretched out. On most sites, an automatic image resizer automatically makes the images smaller so they're able to be viewed in the thread and you can click on the image to open it in a new tab to see it in the bigger size.

This would be such a huge improvement for the site and there's literally no negative consequences.

Here's an example of how the image resizer works -- as you can see in the link the image is automatically resized to fit the thread's width and if you click the yellow bar at the top it takes you to the full size image:

I run two sites and use the following product - it does cost $10 but it's a small price to pay to make your website usable with all these big images being posted in the threads.

Mind showing a few examples of this? I've seen large photos.. but nothing too obstructive. I think there is some sort of re-sizer in place.. just maybe not to your satisfaction?

I know I'm no mod but I'd like to see this for myself anyways. I'll look around.

It appears that the only photos that get resized are ones uploaded directly to the site. Externally hosted images appear to not be resized.

I think a good solution to this is to use imgur.com for your image hosting. I have been using them for a while now and they work fantastic for my needs. They also don't have any bandwidth restrictions that will kill your photos like photobucket.

I am able to separate and keep albums and when I post to a forum like this I use their "large thumbnail" picture option and the "linked BBCode (message boards)" for the embedded pic that links to the image on the forum and it links to the full size picture.

As cool of an idea as that website is, I highly doubt you're going to get people to completely change where they are hosting pics. If I changed all my photos over from one place to another, it would take FOREVER.

It's easier for the admins to just change one little setting in the forum's code/settings than it is to have all the members change where they are hosting pictures from.

If you want to post photos of your tools, shop or items for sale set your camera on the lower pixel setting. This will take care of your problem. You only need a higher setting if you are going to show them on a large screen or are going to print large posters or photos. I have one camera set on low of everything I post for sale on the internet. I am on over 20 sites. I sell art work, glass, tools, parts and many things. I don't sell on Flee bay. I have never had a problem with any photo I have posted here or in Australia. When the photo is small like the ones that get posted in the for sale listings you will have no problems.

I have a converter installed on one of my computers. Most software has it built into the system so you can change the size.

I have had the problem in the past with too large of photos but not sense I changed the settings on my camera.

I do all my posting from my smart phone using the tapatalk app. Phone takes the picture, the the app gives me 3 different size options when posting them.

I have my fabulous Nikon throttled back to 2meg, upload to GJ, and they show up great. (much more resolution and they'd be too big to upload anyway) Maybe one of the photo-hosting sites would be better in some way, but I really don't need yet another batch of usernames and passwords.
But then, when I'm taking pix for posting on GJ or evilBay, that's all they're for. It would be a pain to deal with the high-rez pix you've taken for other purposes. Resample in Corel Photo Paint or some such.
Jamie V seems to have the best, simplest solution, but it won't work for me. Mycell phone is just a phone. Yeah, I'm a neo-Luddite.

This is certainly a cool image, but the size ruins it.

Some bulletin boards support the version of the [] code that includes resizing by including "={width}x{height" immediately after the word IMG.

That is because the forum upload limits you to 146.5K for JPG images. This automatically limits the size of the pic.

We run a VB plugin (can't remember the name) on a local forum that automatically resizes images. It's very handy and makes threads more readable.

You can't always rely on users to resize their pictures.

It amazes me that this hasn't gotten any traction or resolve. This is seriously such an easy fix to install an image resizing tool for the forum and doesn't require anyone to change their behavior, settings, etc. It just automatically happens.

I run multiple vBulletin sites and an automatic image resizing tool is the first thing I install.

Can't the admin on the site take the 3 minutes to add such a useful tool to the site?

IMO if a plugin is added, it should offer a click to see the full-size image. Images like the Indian engine are best seen/saved at full-size.

In you PB homepage go to the box on the right "Links To Share This Album". Click on "Update Link Options" then down at the bottom click on "Upload Options".That will give you the size options. 800X600 generally works well with helping keep the images that are uploaded to various forums such as this from being so large. Hope this helps.

I host my own images and don't care to resize them before uploading them to my site as to not lose clarity or the ability to properly synchronize them.

It can't be that hard to do, www.roflwagens.com automatically resizes pics.

Is there a recommended size? I'm using 1024 x 768 those are large but give good detail and clarity.

I found that if I resize, I use 700 by whatever the automatic program gives me, they fit both my laptop and desktop well. Basically they don't stretch the regular dialogue box you see when there is just text.

You can make the link to the picture clickable so you have a thumbnail that takes you to the original full size image, that takes a bit of effort, but it is doable for sure.

I post sometimes on a PC and sometimes from my smartphone using Tapatalk it seems to me the pictures that are too big when I go to my PC are the ones I posted from my phone. Is that a feature of Tapatalk that allows you to resize or a feature of your phone? I have never seen an option to choose from three different sizes maybe I never noticed it?

The problem with using hey external photo hosting site is the people off and delete the photos and if you or trying to research something the thread is mostly useless if the photos are uploaded here they stay here.

You can "host" you photo HERE ! It just takes a couple of steps.

• Start a new topic or a reply and enter some text
• Upload an attachment
• Preview your post
• Double click the attachment thumbnail
• Grab the URL of that image
• Use the "Insert Image" icon and past the URL there

Right, As a matter of fact, before you close the upload box,
after you , browse, and click on "Upload, It will say please wait,
The links show up in the box toward the bottom, you can just right click them there, and copy the URL.

Thank you guys! I didn't know how to use the thumbnail URL like that.

I guess I have been doing everything the roundabout way.

Still, all of my images have to be resized to even be uploaded to the forum as a thumbnail in the first place. That is the whole point of this thread, right?

The one thing no one mentioned: When you go to copy and paste any URL to the link icon or image icon, don't you have to erase the http:// that pops up in the bar before you paste a link? Some may not realize that.
