I'm in the process of running power out to an external building.
My 30x40 pole barn is ~250ft from my home. This includes an internal run of approximately 40 ft to my main panel. My main panel is 200A. It already contains a breaker for an old barn on my property. The barn has 60A running to it. I will be disconnecting that and using the freed slots for the new subpanel.
Ideally, I'd like a 100A panel in the garage. I'd like to run a 90A breaker in my main panel to supply the sub panel.
I'll run 4-wires (THHN/THWN) through a 2-inch PVC conduit that was just buried. My sub-panel will be unbonded, with separate neutral and grounds. I'll have a grounding rod with #6 copper wire running from the out-building as well.
Based on my understanding, I'm planning on using #3 THHN/THWN between the panels. The entire length of the run will be inside conduit. It looks like it will run me close to $1,000.00 for the wire.
Does this sound correct? Anything I've missed?
One question - what size ground wire can I use for this?
