Picked them up at a sale today. I can read "Germany" on it, but not the maker. It looks like the first letter is the letter "M". Nothing stamped on the steel:dunno:? I can say they work really good.

What is the significance of the piano wire disclaimer? I noticed it on my Knipex too. Does it indicate that they can be used for steel wire in the diameter indicated?
Not cutting much piano wire with them....

Piano wire is much, much harder than normal steel, having undergone a lot more treatments. It will dull the blade quickly.

:rocker:It says "Germany" or it used to say "Made in Germany". It's hard to tell. I can say that they work awesome. I'll keep my eyes open for others from now on.

Weird, those look like a dead ringer for the English Maun manufactured cutters, except for bumps on the pvc handle on the current version.

I believe Maun are the only firm currently manufacturing 'Bernards pattern' parallel action pliers! Certainly in the U.K. they are the only ones! Seriously useful tools too, if you've never used them!

There have always been other firms making the cutters though (Record in the U.K. used to) but I've never seen any advantage in buying anything other than the Maun!

I see lots of cutters rated for copper wire after they've been used on piano wire and it leaves a nice round hole in the cutting edge - bit like those built-in wire strippers you see on some models of electricians cutters, combi-cutters I believe they are called :)

Cheers,
Mark.
