can you identify this tool?

been looking around on this site for ahile and i know there are siome really knowledgable tool guys on here. I picked this up at a rummage sale because ive never seen one before... it has a built in u joint and a chuck/arbor on one end. The other end i believe is a. Drive maybe for sockets?????

Anyway... i cant make out any labels on it. Can someone tell me more about the uses of the tool and maybe who manufactured it?

Thats a good guess... could be. I wonder if the end on the right side of the picure is suppose to fit into the chuck of another drill/ driver...? Then i could place a drill bit or driver in the chuck on the left side in the picture. Almost like a u joint a for drill/driver...??? Not sure... throwing arrows in the dark here...

yeah, Looks like it does what a corner brace does, allows you to work next to a wall or in a corner

It's not so much an extension as it is a angle head for drilling in cramped quarters with a bit brace. This HAS to be a two man operation with the thing at an angle though! I just got one of those two weeks ago!

Thanks for all of the feedback on what it is. Would anyone here be able to make a guess as to manufacturer or time period this is from? According to the lady I bought it from, she believe it was early 1900's as it was her husbands great-grandfathers (supposedly).

I am starting to get into collecting older tools, but I still have never seen anything like this and have no idea of whether or not it's a collectble or not - it just looked cool to me so I scooped it.

Clean it up and see if you can find any makers marks, including location or patents if they are there. Patents won't date it other that "no older than", but can sometimes be used with other data to Google up a lot of info on tools.

Early 1900's is a reasonable guesstimate, but it could also be 50's-60's as well, (I'd be surprised if it was newer.)
