I just installed some VCT tiles in my garage, and was curious if there's any reason you can't use a smaller handheld polisher to seal/polish the floor instead of one of the large machines you'd normally use. My endless searching on google hasn't turned up any helpful information at all. I planned on renting a floor polisher from home depot for the job, but considering it's only a garage, the amount of time I'd save using the bigger machine would be lost on the time it took to drive to home depot and rent it and return it, as opposed to just having a smaller one in the cabinet I could pull out when needed, not to mention in the future when there's other stuff in the room and I need to get in corners around a fridge, cabinets, workbench...
The main differences I'm not sure of is if the speed ranges between the two are similar enough(looks like the bigger ones are about 175-300rpm), and the different pads you can mount on them. I haven't seen any kind of floor pads for the smaller ones, but I feel like I could probably buy some of the bigger pads and just cut them into 3-4 smaller ones. I've never used either type of buffer so I wasn't even sure how the pads attach to either.
Opinions? I was thinking something like one of these:
