Anything exciting for Amazon Prime Days? I see lots of stuff from major brands on sale (Dewalt, Gearwrench, Crescent, etc), but I don't need anything in particular. Thus far nothing has been temping enough for a pure impulse-buy.
I noticed Cabelas has the Kershaw Leek on sale for $89 with free shipping (with code: PRIMAL). The Leek doesn't really appeal to me because I don't like assisted-opening knives or non-deep carry pocket clips, but I know it's one of the all-time best sellers, so it must appeal to some. 14C28N is basically my favorite sub-$100 blade steel, so that's a plus.
Typical prices are around $125, so it's a reasonably healthy discount.
As an aside, I don't understand why assisted-opening is necessary anymore. The rationale used to be that it made sure the blade always opened, even with a weak flick or while wearing gloves. These days pocket knife tuning and ceramic bearings makes that pretty much a non-issue with most knives - and if your blade is assisted, then you have to overcome the spring effect to close it. I'd rather have a well-tuned knife I can open and close one-handed.
Also, Blades Canada is having a Spyderco sale. Pretty attractive prices in my opinion.
Talking about "flickable" or SA knives.
Sounds like flickable knives are once again in the target of CBSA and are being confiscated. Personally I love flickable or SA knives and think we should be allowed to carry full on OTFs, but here in the nanny state, nope cant have that!
I wondered how Milwaulkee got away with them for so long TBH. So if you want something flickable, something you might want to think about.
Even Spiderco knives look like theyre going to be targeted. Basically any folder with a smooth mechanism is in their sights. Fecking gov. priorities.
CBSA i think. They guy in the video is quoting CBSA that no folders will cross the boarder.Did a law change, or is it just the CBSA?
Any evidence at all that that ******** used an assisted or even flickable opening knife? Or did he use a kitchen knife, which is arguably more deadly and faster to deploy. Those quick opening knives are dangerous. Look at the stabbing in Toronto TTC last week. If you are not smart enough to open it with two hands, you are definitely not smart enough to have a dangerous weapon in your pocket. I am sure every petty drug dealer has lots of them.
I carried one that had the thumb flip for years and I finally realised how dangerous it was to me and others.

Don't know, but I didn't see any comments about him carrying a roast carving knife.Any evidence at all that that ******** used an assisted or even flickable opening knife?
Just CBSA. Runkle of the Bailey on YouTube has a couple good rundowns of the state of the law (he is a lawyer) and how the CBSA tribunal applied it.
In effect anything that can be opened with a flick - and that includes knives that are partially opened first - will be seized at the border. It's basically just slipjoints, maybe the odd stiff lockback and other knives that cannot be opened in one motion, that will be allowed to cross the border.
Oddly, retailers don't seem to be having the same importation struggles, at least for the time being. The CBSA policy isn't new - it's been about three years now. However, it seems they're interpreting it even more strictly these days - hence partially opening the blades first. Nevertheless, the knives you and I can't import are still being sold here (just at inflated prices).

OK, just wanted to make sure the flickable knives I already own weren't suddenly outlawed. I was having flashbacks of when I was a kid saving up for a Balisong and when I finally got enough money together and went to the shop, they told me they had just been outlawed (the clause about centrifugal opening was added). What a disappointment.
Well... I hate to say it, but knives that can be flicked open aren't strictly legal in Canada. Just because it's for sale here, doesn't mean it couldn't land you in legal trouble. Hah! I took it out of the box, tested some batteries (they were dead lol) and promptly put it in my toolbox drawer. Haven't touched it since!I’m curious - any use of the 210E? How is it?
I agree,BUT when we built out house I was on a ladder lots and fear of dropping my impact driver would have been solved with this.Saw some more Proto at my local Princess Auto. Wasn't sure what I needed it for... but here it is.
Hooray!!! I just picked it up today. I ordered online with pick up instore. I wanted a de-thatcher for years, but they were too much for the 2 hours a year that you actually use them. This price is great.
I am looking for a reasonable quality cheap set of of screwdrivers, and phillips in patricular.
Any one have comments on Mastercraft vs Maximum? (There's always some set on salr at Can Tire)
I really like Maximum stuff.Any one have comments on Mastercraft vs Maximum? (There's always some set on salr at Can Tire)
If your store still has stock, this set on clearance looks like a reasonable buy:Any one have comments on Mastercraft vs Maximum? (There's always some set on sale at Can Tire)
I saw those on sale quite a bit cheaper recently. Ask... they honor sale prices less than one month old. I personally didn't like them. Here is a lukewarm deal. My local Princess Auto has a set of Crescent branded USA-made 6 piece screwdrivers for $30. My phone died so I didn't manage to record the catalogue number. But it's exactly this set shown in the pictures. Based on websites that list the set for $18-24 USD, the model number is LCCP1006.
The handle is a little too slim to my taste. But the blades appeared well made.
Thanks evreryone. I wound up getting a Mastercraft set of 10 screwdrivers for $10. These will only see occaisional light DIY use and how can you beat the price....
That set shouldn't be $30. I posted about it a page back because it dropped to a clearance price of $11.61. Does Princess Auto subscribe to the "scanning code of practice"? You might have found yourself a set of screwdrivers for $1.61.Here is a lukewarm deal. My local Princess Auto has a set of Crescent branded USA-made 6 piece screwdrivers for $30.
