Looking at the Princess flyer - one thing I like about it is that sometimes there are things that are just oddities. At a glance the “blemished” pliers make a lot of sense in surplus. But on closer review, some of the combination pliers are just the kitschy oddities you have to smile at (and not buy, even though your inner 7 year old wants them).

Pliers

How would you describe them? Nut#^€%£rs? Hamplier vampire defenders with wire cutter? Deluxe cheese knife? Macgyver kit #3?

And of course the other two important questions. Who will buy them? And how low will the clearance price be before you pick up a set?

Those are for tire weight removal and application.

3. I still like the thought of where they’ll be used - probably a lot less on tires than other things

We do some tire swaps at work so have a pair (not this exact one but similar).

2 - Unless you have a balancer you're not going to be adding/removing weights to your rims.


3 - The "pincer" side is designed for removing weights. They're pretty small and flimsy but they hook into the hole onto the rim clamp. At 180g they're too light to hammer anything. Sometimes a stubborn weight/rim combo I still need an actual hammer.

They're less than the price of a beer so if you want a toy for curiosity then by all means. But I don't think you'll find many uses 😂

No deal - yet. But I noticed there are Pro.Point pliers wrenches now. That's kind of interesting. They felt and looked nice as far as I could tell from looking at them in the packaging.

If there's a sale, I might even be willing to try a pair.

I don't mean they look like copies, but they look like Knipex more than some others. E.g. Irwin, Gray, Wiha, etc all have their own spin and may or may not function the same (e.g. Irwin's apparently don't have enough range of motion to easily ratchet some sizes of fastener, Wiha has a different adjustment mechanism). I'm hopeful that means these stick true to the originals.

12" is a pretty pricey size in the genuine article, so the like $35 price of Pro.Points seems perfectly reasonable.

I got a pair of the Maximum attempt and they're pretty meh. Will probably eventually get the real deal for work and relegate the Max to my home box. If these go on sale I'd give them a try in the mean time.

Has anyone's local Princess Auto recently added Klein Tools? Mine just has, maybe a month or 2 ago, not sure the exact date.. Its a small display, probably one 8' section in an isle, just the main tools too, like pliers, and its not even a complete selection of pliers either. Certainly not the selection like at Home Depot or anything. Thought it was interesting. I was going to grab a pic but forgot

I have Knipex. They’re great. I find the 10” the most useful. Worth having, but more nice to have than an essential - if I had to choose what to give up, it would be the Cobras I couldn’t live without.

ProPoint I would handle and check the weight of those. I have a set of imitation Cobras that I hate. They’re not badly made, but compared to Knipex they are heavy and the adjuster is not as nice. My guess is the weight would be a good indicator of how faithful of a copy the ProPoints are.

I have never found the Maximum ones in store. While different, I suspect they’re okay in their own right. But not discounted quite enough that I wouldn’t buy the real thing.

Harbor Freight knockoffs may be really close to Knipex, but also not a steep enough discount where I’d buy those. I don’t have an issue with others playing catchup, but if the price still reflects the new product premium, then better to support the innovator.

$35 for a 10” is about right for what it is. I will be curious to look.

I've seen Klein in my store. I don't think it is that recent a change to be honest - but there does seem to be more now than in the past. From my fuzzy recollection, it was just a few pliers and some testing tools in the past, whereas now there are hex keys, screwdrivers, etc.

Well darn it, now I'm going to have to go and check it out sometime.

That location will be easier to get to compared to the old one off of Wellington Rd, though I wish they would have found a spot in the north end of the city.

KMS and Amazon have the 12" pliers wrench for $89.95. KMS is handy if you want to try a price match at Home Depot (which lists it for $128) and get it for 10% off and free shipping (since they don't carry it in-store).

They'll probably do what Canadian Tire did with its mega stores, more stock out on the shelves, spread apart further. Can't say I really noticed any difference in product selection when ctc started making those bigger stores, just more out on the floor of the same stuff.

I've gone through a few 2-tier utility carts and still looking for the perfect one to store commonly used tools or tools and parts I'll need for a job instead of going back and forth to the tool chest or laying them in various places on the lift/windshield cowl/floor/driveway. Also a place to leave everything when I'm done because I'm too tired to clean up right away. I saw this cart with 3 drawers at PA for $180 and decided to pick one up. Not on sale, but "Hot Buy":


Before this, I had been eyeing the one with the sliding top, because I can leave stuff on the top and still slide it open/close. It just hasn't come down on sale to a price I can justify.

I had the same one before my garage fire. They discontinued it for awhile and then brought it back. It remember it being ~$139 when I bought it - but without a time machine, that's little use to you.

I thought it was a decent little cart. I had bodywork tools in mine, it custom-cut foam. Then I used the top for am impromptu workspace - or, much like you're proposing, to temporarily store something I was working on (e.g. say I had an alternator taken-apart).

It's not as large as the Maximum/Mastercraft tool carts, but it is relatively sturdy and the drawers worked well. I didn't regret buying it.

E.g. the "buy a $429 Flexvolt battery and get a free tool" doesn't seem like much of a deal. Like weren't the Flexvolt kits regularly offered on sale for $399? I suppose if you're doing the return hack for either item, it would work out.

I also saw a $179 Milwaukee M12 2.5ah pack. That can't be right.

There were $98 M12 ratchet and Hackzall kits. Those are kinda tempting. Or the $75 Ryobi cordless router.

Curious I just searched. The street price is $90ish, HD and another company are $128. You's seen it higher. It seems like they are setting up a big 50% off sale .

Black Friday deals are live at Home Depot and Rona. They're mostly as-expected, but maybe a bit worse than years past. Still, absent a time machine that may be the brave new world we live in.

The Flexvolt deal at Home Depot didn't improve any - I was hoping it would. I am thinking about the blower though, because if my math is right, the disproportionately high value of the battery kit would mean you could return it and net the blower as a bare tool for ~$140. I WAS going to buy the new 777 Flexvolt blower for max power! However, that's $300, or $500 as a kit on holiday special. I might convince myself to live with the lower-tier model given the price disparity.

The Dewalt 5ah kit plus free tool offer is back, but with a limited selection of mostly lower-tier 20v tools. However, you can use it to get the sander or circular saw for about $88 using the return kit. That's not terrible if you have batteries already.

I didn't analyze the other deals since Dewalt is all I'm interested in.

Interesting run down. It's definitely sophisticated!

It seems nice that you can select your units and set the values in the app - but then again, using an app to torque bolts... some people won't like that at all.

Torque angle and sequencing features are pretty neat. I can definitely see this being a tool for pro industrial applications, maybe even assembly.

I still want it.

I stopped KMS today. Bought a sanding starter kit and a 12v Milwaukee 2.0mah battery. Both the sander and battery were on sale. The battery was on sale for $28 didn’t really need another one but WTH. For the hell of it I looked and HD alo has it on for the same price. But still a steal as the 1.5mah 2 pack are on for $128. :yikes:

My dad got one of those cheap 4.5” angle grinders from Princess many years ago. Not sure if it was the same supplier, I remember it being gray. I think he paid 22.22 for it. It was a deal then, and it took a lot of abuse. Considering 20 years of inflation, 18.88 is a really good price.

I also see the ProPoint pliers wrenches are going on sale for 40% off. Anyone tried them? 17.99 to 23.99 is a very good price, IMO. I love my Knipex, but that price is the sweet spot where a spare pair or having a less used size can make sense. And hopefully still high enough they’re sufficiently well made to be worth it.
