Black Friday sale on Gray Tools website, mostly on sockets and ratchets. I actually bought the 21-piece 3/8" drive metric 6pt set myself.

I had a similar set from Williams (the USA line) that I lost in my garage fire - figured I would replace it with something Canadian, especially since the price isn't really any different. I hope these are just as good.

It might not appeal to everyone, but I use 3/8" drive for the majority of my wrenching, so having a set with such a wide range (7mm to 26mm) keeps me from having to run back and forth to the tool box. I often pair the small sizes with some 3/8" drive in 1/4" ratchet body ratchets for the little stuff.

P.s. you can price match with Home Depot online for 10% off (if they don't pick on your location).

How do you buy from their web site? They keep pointing me at other retailers. Also what's the price?

Wow. I was on graytools.com. That's so dumb having a completely different site for online sales, and then not even pointing to it from their "where to buy" page.
Yeah - it's strange. I can't figure out why they have two websites. I should have provided a link to the black friday deals.

They used to feature the storefront on the Graytools website, much like Snapon does, but since the re-design it seems theyre promoting other retailers over their own storefront.

Not a great redesign IMHO.

The Gray online sales site -

I don’t know, but making an educated guess based on many companies way of dealing with internal vs external sales channels.

Their existing distributors are their bread and butter. It’s not hard to undercut your distributors, but they really control market access. Undercut them and you have more of the margin, but they drop the line and you have way less sales.

I’m guessing they’ve done a separate webpage as a compromise. To not drive people there directly, not upset their customers (salespeople/distributors are notoriously territorial), but try to offer a channel for customers without access to a local distributor.

To outsiders it’s hard to understand, but when you understand how factory sales, authorized agents, sub distributors, etc works, it’s just inherently and necessarily awkward.

Well, for those of you waiting to try them,

Pro-Point Pliers Wrench 40% OFF

Way cheaper than Knipex, but are they any good? Only review on PA website says lower tolerences = more slop.
I had a look when I was in on Tuesday and they certainly look unrefined. I have a couple sets of the Maximum ones that are supposedly made by Wiha so I didn't bother buying them to try out. I'm sure they're a reasonable budget option but as with most things, the authentic Knipex is going to be much better.

I got a pair of the maximum on clearance. Bought them to try before dropping money on the knipex and not overly impressed.

I've never had a clock in my garage and I'm always surprised to find out how long I spent in there. Since I didn't have much on my shopping list this Black Friday, I decided to splurge on this 16" plug-in clock for $35 that I never have to worry about changing batteries or DST. Amazon says it's only 10% off, but the 3 wise camels show it to be an all time low down from $47:

And yes, you can change the colour:

Wurth's Cyber Monday sale seems SURPRISINGLY good. Promo code CM2025 give up to 50% off - you will have to sign up for an online account to see the prices.

While "up to" sounds like the sort of qualification to disguise that most items won't be anywhere near that, there are actually some tools that genuinely show up as 50% off for me, including some of their pliers. The important thing is that many of their pliers are just rebranded Knipex at slightly inflated prices, but when you get them for 1/2 price... they are cheaper than Knipex even at sales pricing.

E.g. the 7" Corbas are $28.41, the giant 16" are $69.27.

  • Screwdrivers I long assumed were rebranded Felo, but I know there's a thread here that argues otherwise. In any event, they're similar and very high quality.
  • They also make my all-time favorite bit ratchet, which is 72-tooth, reversible, has a finger spinner ring and doesn't add any height to your bit.
  • The "Zebra" ratchets feel very similar to Felo to me too, but they don't have Felo-branded equivalents, so it's anyone's guess.
  • The sockets are most comparable to Facom.
Wurth doesn't manufacture any tools as far as I'm aware, so everything is sourced from other tool companies - all of it German judging from the items I own.

Check this out! Maybe I'm forgetting something, but I don't recall Princess Auto ever combining their battery promos on Powerfist 20v tools with sales prices.

Get a 2 Ah battery for $1 with your Powerfist 20V tool purchase!

That means you could get the die grinder with a 2ah battery for $51 for example. Charger is still sold separately, but I still think that's a crazy deal. Soldering iron with battery for $31, the heat gun with battery for $43. $26 for the detail sander with battery! Nuts!

I didn't try it, but the 2.0ah battery and charger starter kit is on the page too - seems like you could also buy that and get an extra battery.

RONA has 15% off regular priced items. I haven't seen any sales on the dewalt 7491 table saw in the year+ that I've been shopping so this might be the opportunity

Any examples of Wurth screwdriver prices?

Heyco has some that look Felo-like. Not sure if they make or outsource. Wish someone would sell the older Felo hard handles with the translucent plastic…

Don’t think I’ll plug in for an account today, but curious to watch if I should for future…

Thanks.

Went for their oil filter wrench, which is a Facom u48. Good price with the discount.

The Pliers Wrenches say Knipex right in the picture. The Water Pump Pliers (Cobra) do not say knipex front and center in the photo but they look verrrrrrry similar.

The 50% off works

250mm / 10" Water Pump Pliers (Cobra?) = $29.31
400mm / 16" Water Pump Pliers (Cobra?) = $69.27
180mm / 7" Pliers Wrench = $63.02
300mm / 12" Pliers Wrench = $70.00

Some all time low prices... On tools I've been wanting for a long time... But I can't justify them all at once.

Just got one of these oil drains from Princess Auto for $100. The jug came assembled with the casters and all I had to do was pop in the column and funnel. It’s nice that the funnel sits inside the top tube, so no worries about oil leaking out from there unlike some other designs (HF). And a simple spring clamp sits on the outside of the top tube to keep it at height - again, no set screw hole for the oil to leak out of.

I was originally avoiding this plastic style of reservoir after reviews of others leaking. I planned to buy just the funnel and tubes from the Lisle version and drain into a bucket, but this works out cheaper and I get a free reservoir to try. Bonus that this funnel is also a bit larger (16.25”) than the Lisle (15”). If the tank leaks, I’ll just use the rest of it like I originally planned. I’ll also empty it after each oil change so it won’t be storing any large amounts for long.

I filled mine with water to test for leaks, and it's been a couple weeks no probelm. Can't wait to actually use it - I'll be doing a Subaru CVT fluid flush after I replace the torque converter lockup solenoid.
That sounds like a big job! I did a video on a Subaru CVT fluid exchange ( not flush) to show all the Subaru elitists that say you can't do it on your own, that you need a scan tool, a relearn and that only OEM fluid will do.

I'll look up your video. I was just going to use a temperature gun to make sure the oil was hot enough once topped up. I watched a Mr. Subaru video and didn't see a relearm unless I missed it, but he did use a scanner to watch the oil temp.

Whether I do a full flush (which is really just a couple of drains and fills) depends on whether the solenoid replacement works. If not, the car has over 400,000kms and is rusting like crazy underneath, so not sure how much more I want to spend on it than an $80 solenoid (and $120 in fluid) if there's actual tranbsmission damage that I can't DIY. Fingers crossed!
