I'm surprised no one talked about it yet. 56" Wide Mastercraft Maximum Tool Box @ 599$ (normally 1099$)

24 thru 27 dec (I think).

So I used my gift certificate today...

:bounce:

It will go beside this 41" home made box:

It's well used and will become the secondary box. It will probably receive ball bearing slide sooner or later too.

"Only" 18" depth like my other box. I never used a 24" deep box so I figured this one would be plenty.

The metal homemade box was made by my father in law. He is a sheet metal worker by trade and made the boxe for my fiance when she worked as a mechanic at a Toyota dealer. The box is at least 15 years old and the kitchen slide he used lasted a while but they are pretty much busted now. I plan to take the box appart to repaint it too so I will try to take picture in the process. Honestly, appart from the slide, it's quite a nice piece of work. :)

BTW guys, the Canadian Tire tool box is made by QualityCraft for Canadian Tire. QCI number is 201JRH235BLK. Seem to be a special order as it's not on QCI website.

anyone else have this roller? Canadian tire has it for sale right now for 650. In person it looked really solid, the drawers rated for 100lbs and casters rated for 2000lb. It seems like QCI also makes the Montezuma rollers that seem to be getting good reviews here, this looks to be a cheaper version with 4 casters instead of 6, and different drawer split.

Variant of these?

I don't have it but I did take a look at it the other day. For the money its a pretty decent box. I'm not a fan of the drawer arrangement but im sure it's fine depending on your needs and what you like. I had a similar style Mastercraft box and it did ok for a few years. Only issue I had was with the latches. Mine were complete garbage and I had to modify all of them to get them to work right but I'm sure(or at least I hope anyways) they've upgraded them by now. Funny thing is I didn't look too closely at the latches when I saw the box. I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow when I go there.

they are the lift/latch style latches, no detente. They "lock" into place when the handle is not lifted. I noticed the older style mastercraft crossover use similar detente to the montezuma. Problem is they are discontinued and noone has any stock... too bad because I would love one of those triangle style boxes.

I also had a look in sears and most of their craftsman stuff was garbage, half of the displays were broken/sticking. I can't think of any other place in town to find a tool chest.

Yep mine was like that. The problem was that the "spring" that caused the drawer to latch was simply a pressure fitted piece of thin metal and the flex of that piece of metal was what made it latch. It was simply slid on over a tab in the lock. Those little pieces would fall off so I had to bend up the end of the tab that slid through it. The negative side was that it lost some of it's springiness but they didn't fall apart after. I'm really curious now if they've improved it.

There must be 25 of those things at the last place I worked......they hold up great. I have one myself actually. Many of the aircraft structural repair guys I worked with have them (and they have very heavy tools) and they seem to be working out just fine. This is a place where the toolbox gets rolled around a lot with very heavy tools on a pretty rough floor. If they were going to break, that's the environment that would make em fail pretty quick.

Yeah, it's not an awesome toolbox by any means but seriously I cannot see me blowing anymore than that $$ on a toolbox.
