Canadian Bendpak Price Increase

I got a follow up call on the quote they sent me a month or so ago. When I saw the call display I hoped that they would be offering a discount. Not. They were just advising of a 5% price increase next week! Perhaps this is just for us lucky Canadians. Oh well. I'm not ready to buy as the garage has one too many cars in it still.

Yes and steel should have dropped. I think I will shop around when I am ready. I wanted a Bendpak HD9 because of quality and the 220 volt. Many of the cheap lifts don't even offer 220. Bendpak's sliding bridge jack is very expensive too. The lift, jack, drip tray and casters added up to $5155 + tax shipped to the local depot! I can buy a Chinese lift out of Calgary for almost half of that but I really don't want that one.

Hey Matti - first-off, I feel for ya- that's becoming a lot of money. Secondly, but most importantly, you know yourself you want the best you can afford. Thing is, with a lift, you'll have it forever. They don't wear out (esp. in hobby use) and if you're realy car-guy, you'll always want it.
I got my BP HD9-XTW a year ago and just took delivery of the rolling jack. I can see why the jack is so much - it's extremley heavy duty.
Now I just have to wait until it's dry to get my stored Galaxie off and the jack on!

If you don't have any other quotes then you don't know whether you're being jerked around. People still use tried and true sales tactics like this in a recession.

I don't think there is another dealer around. I could import but I won't save anything there. The Bend Pak is much more expensive than the other lifts when you take into account the accessories are extra and the sliding jack is very expensive. Then there is the exchange rate. I'm in no hurray and really don't need one until fall so no big deal.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd like to go with the Bendpak HD9, but the accessories are about double that being charged by DirectLift in Toronto. I'm looking to get the solid deck, plus I would like to get the casters. The casters are included with the Directlift, and the solid deck is over 1K Canadian on the Bendpak. I thought that we were in a recession. You couldn't tell from the prices we're getting. I haven't gotten an email from Bendpak's distributor here in Canada yet advising as to the price increase. Like you, I don't need the lift till the fall.

hey jcaledon - Is the solid deck an actual solid piece of steel welded across the ramp surface? If so, I thought it'd be good to have the option of driving ATV's on the lift, or a trailer, etc, so I had three heavy gauge sheets aluminum cut and bent small tabs on two sides of each to fit over the roller channels. While heavy enough for ATV's, etc, they wouldn't hold a cars vehicle's weight -but they where only $150.00 for the set - maybe an option?

Thanks for the offer, but I need to park my tractor, snowmobiles etc. on the lift for now, so I'd like something really solid. The center deck comes in pieces. They are not flat pieces of metal, they are actually bent and reinforced steel. They should be able to take quite a bit of weight. I don't get why Bendpak's prices on the accessories are so much more than the competition. The lift is pretty close in price to the Directlift, but once you start adding on the cost of the accessories, it starts to become cost prohibitive. I'm located in Toronto, so I could pick up the lift directly from the Directlift distributor, but Bendpak is charging for delivery - which was annoying since they advertise free shipping to most locations. Free shipping to most locations in Canada - but there is a shipping cost for Toronto - the largest city in the country by a wide margin??????? Sounds like a scam to me. I got a quote for the HD9 with the solid deck, casters, shipping to the warehouse (not my home) and taxes for just over 5K. This price needs to come down by 20%.

Has anyone in Canada considered whether the new home renovation credit would apply for a car lift? You can bolt them down, and if you did so it would become a fixture, no different than a furnace or a/c unit. What do the Canucks think?

Ha Ha. Thats a good one! I didn't think of using the tax credit for the lift. You had better read the fine print as I think furniture and the like are not included. I need to put a patio and landscaping in after destroying the yard last year so much of the $10,000 tax credit renovation money is mostly spent already anyway.

Check carefully where that Bend Pak is made. The answer may suprise you...

I got a quote from Babco in BC regarding the same lift, options. It likely was the identical price as I want to pick it up in Toronto, though I'm 200 miles north. Anyway, just to see what they'd say, I sent the quote I got from RB Wholesale which will ship for free to upstate New York. Off the top of my head I can't remember how much Babco knocked off the cost but it was a pretty good chunk. I'd get a US quote to NY and then call Babco. They seemed pretty quick to come close. PM me if you want any further info and I"ll get exact numbers.

I thought about the tax credit right away to - but alas- NO TOOLS!!!

Oh well, we're doing $50-$60K worth of renos starting next month, so although the credit is a drop in the bucket -it will help!

Man..thats not cool if bendpak are raising the prices...

Its funny too, that here in vancouver, our gas is 1.01 again for 87 regular octane. And we dont even get th 3.5cents off anymore.. what a bunch of balony!! haha.

back to hoist....how does a lift qualify as a tax rebate???? sounds interesting...
