Yeah that's a pretty killer deal - shame I'm not anywhere near Dartmouth!

Checked out the completed auctions, crazy how CFB Suffield just got rid of twenty Land Rovers.

I'm going to bid on that sheet metal brake. Any suggestions as to what would be a fair price?

Warren................

Well the minimum bid is 500. The Brake looks like a 4' and it says 12 gauge on it. It's a USA made box / brake too. A china import that size would run 600 - 800 bucks.

So somewhere between that range. If it was close to me, i would buy it and throw a bid of 625.

all depends on what they go for. These GC auctions can get worse than Ebay. There are bargains to be had but theyre few and far between for decent items,

Yeah, from looking at completed auctions the final prices seem...fair. That said, I wish I'd known about the site a couple days ago, the pair of Juki industrial sewing machines for $500 was a steal.

High bid wins the auction. I have bought a few lots in the past but for some reason the reserve bids are getting out of line.

How does this work? Like Ebay where the bids are against one another, or blind bidding where the highest bid is only known after the close?

Yeah it's blind. Just like how our government does everything:p

wow...those 3 MAC tool chests all went for $4300-$4500 + 15% tax each. That's a lot of coin for base model toolboxes with a few mix and match and incomplete tool sets IMHO.

Jeebus. Who's paying those kinds of prices? I wonder if it's other gov't departments fighting over it.

In my experience (just speaking of what I've seen in the dept I work for) government depts usually only obtain used gear directly from one another and even at that it's not really a purchase. If one dept has an asset that they no longer have a use for (project ended or whatever) and another government dept can make use of the item, they just sign it over to the dept that needs it. It's basically an exercise to get the most use they can out of an asset. I'm sure there are rare situations where a department will buy something used from the private sector but It's not a normal occurrence.
I'd say those were simply a company thinking they were getting a good deal based on full retail and didn't really do a lot of research before bidding. in any case, crowned assets did well on that sale.
Sure, there are awesome deals to be had in government auctions but it's definitely buyer beware.

Cat ... much of that stuff is seized property. Failure to pay duty and the like.

Aha, I totally missed the "Forfeited to the Crown" line, that makes much more sense. All the signed jerseys made it look like they were liquidating a small hockey museum. :lol_hitti

You never know what will turn up there. A Lamborghini Countach and a Ferrari 458 have gone through in the last 2 years. The Ferrari went for $36k, but it was in rough shape. I can only imagine what buying OEM Ferrari parts would run for a full engine rebuild.

I have to cry when I see the machine tools going through there. Monarch 10EE's, DSG lathes, Bridgeports, Cardiff. All old school, well built stuff. There have been a couple of very nice Enco and Rockwell lathes that I was drooling over. The warehouse in Ottawa is about 15mins away from me.
