Hey members,

Really thinking alot of MaxJax and looking at everyone's pictures and reading their posts got me wanting one.

Where in Ontario Canada can I get one? My closest border crossing is Buffalo NY, Costco.ca tells me they can only get the 4-post from Dannmar and that's all for now unless it changes. If In Buffalo or close by, I can contact them and find more info.

Shipping from afar would be large.

Any ideas or tips??

Thanks

Contact Gabe an Danmar, and he will give you the name of the Canadian Distributor. I don't know what type of hassle it would be for you to "import" it into Canada from the US yourself, but if it is doable, then have it delivered to a trucking terminal in Buffalo, and pick it up there and drive it home. I have recently heard of border crossing horror stories, so it will be up to you to decide how badly you want it, and how to get it. If it would make it easier for you to import a "used" one, I will give you mine, when you replace it with a new one. I live about 4 hours from the Buffalo border crossing. Just a thought.

the last time I talked to Babco.ca they were selling lifts and had several places across Canada that were "free" shipping. Now to get the 4 post HD9 I wanted from Vancouver to Toronto it was $275 CAN which I thought was pretty good. I'd call them and see. I checked into the US thing and it was pretty even with exchange once you factor in the PITA factor. The nice thing about getting a lift from Babco is you only pay GST not PST as it's from out of province. That savings is pretty close to the exchange of CAN US. When you import from the US you must go to the Boarder office, give them original bill of sale, pay the GST and PST and then you're in. No time limit, etc so it's completely legit. I was 99% ready to pull the trigger on an HD9 but decided to go with a Mohawk which is available in Toronto -- nuther story...

Just was wondering, but haven't seen specific picture yet.

Does the lifting work with a cable or chain?

Just called Princess Auto and they're going to have one available in about a month. Price $2799.00 marked as Power Fist, but no pictures or specs as of yet.

I don't want to hold my breath on what thats going to be like.

Spent a lot of time here today reading and looking at most installs of their MaxJax and all positive feedback, easy install, good instructions, 2 1/2 hour install times, if parts are missing or damaged- quick happy resolves.

No p'd off buyers, thats great 'cause I'm one picky fellow;) I'm almost redy to order!

I have done the home work for you, MaxJax from California to Buffalo is about $2,570.CDN
Plus going to Buffalo get it or hiring a trucking company & broker to pick up. Then you have GST/PST. Babco is $2,625. that includes $150 for freight out depending on your city, it might be an another $150?? That makes us $2,775 plus GST. If you get me the city you live in I'll get a freight rate. We do change the prices of the hobby lifts with the dollar. We know how you guys like to shop and compare. lol
I know Gabe very well and he is a great guy, but he is not as cute as the nice girls at babco. What do you bet my next call is from Gabe!

I do think the install time should be faster than 2.5 hours??

Junkman, who is the old fuddy duddy me or tatra?? I going with me as I am old enough to be there father. lol Lets see what they say on pay day! I even washed one of the girls car last week and fixed it yesterday.

Gabe has been in the lift business a long time. Several years ago he worked at BendPak
Got a good education. Not only is he a nice guy, but he knows what he is talking about. One of the smartest guys in the lift business that I know is Jeff from BendPak and I would put Gabe right up there. If i have a problem I can't fiquire out those are two people I turn too. Now I am going to have to buy both of them a larger hat.

But looks wise, its our girls. lol

Karlene told me you bought the MaxJax from her. I was surprised on the freight cost. Only an extra $90 including home delivery. I said about $2,775 and it was $ 2,715. I wish we could use that freight company for larger lifts. But they won't take them.

Thanks for the business!

Yeah, I have to call Karlene on Friday to confirm that it came in and some questions on delivery details.

Never talked to Gabe, yeah....sounds to be a nice guy, but I bet doesn't sound as nice as Karlene. Plus I would want her to get the commision......right?

Lots of good happy customers here with MaxJax that I feel I'm going to really like it.

Thanks

Thanks to Karlene for all the help, and Bruce that will be sending me a catalog in the mail soon......right?

I'll need a while to get it up and running, have a few other things on the go right now.

Will post pictures as soon as I can, going to re-read all MaxJax threads here to pick up any pointers on installations.

Let me know if anyone has any good ideas on post mounting or spacing.

Nice Pics there Kool. Just a thought after reading about Ezzie's problems with his lift. Is the 110 volt pump CSA or UL approved ? Maybe Bruce could answer that.

The pictures look good Kool. The power units are CSA approved Tech Guy, we don't sell a lift that is not. My understanding of insurance is that if you don't have a CSA or C-Ul approved power unit and you have a fire, your not covered. Jeff from BendPak told me that they did a study on offshore power units and they just didn't work or last like the domestic. So saving a few bucks there was not worth it.

I'll weigh in here since I am now an "expert" on electrical safety certification of car lifts (at least in Ontario). It is not enough to have just a CSA approved motor on the hydraulic unit. The entire lift including all of the wire used, the switches, contactors, limit switches, etc. must all be either CSA or ULc approved and the grounding checked with a hi-pot test to satisfy the ESA inpection. There has to be a CSA label for the whole lift or if not, an ESA special inspection must be done once it is installed to satisfy the new ESA rules. If not, the homeowner, distributors, manufacturer (the whole supply chain) can all be subject to fines.

BTW, the US made Monarch hydraulic unit on my Complete Hydraulic lift has a Chinese made SPX-Stone motor on it that has a CSA approval label and reference# on it. That's not enough to satisfy ESA. What safety certs do the Max Jax units have?? I would expect your in the same situation as Complete Hydraulic and their Canadian distys.

Your are correct on the insurance issue and not being covered as the insurance company will just wash their hands of it leaving you on the hook. It appears Ezzie has some CSA labels but not enough to satisfy the local authorities.

Ezzie,

The MaxJax uses a SPX Stone Hydraulics Power Unit that is top of the line in our Industry. The MaxJax Unit (Model AB-1480) conforms to: A.N.S.I./UL-201 CAN/CSA C22.2 No 68 and is Recognized by ALI/ETL.

Regards,
Gabe
