Hey Everyone,

I havn't been on here in a while. I hope everybody is doing well.

This is kind of a stupid question, but I will ask it anyway. Basically here's the deal, a while back I purchased two sets of Mastercraft Maximum wrenches from Canadian Tire; SAE and Metric. The set can be seen here:
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672988&bmUID=1163368759397
Extremely high quality wrenches for the money, by the way. The quality is the same, if not better, than the Snap-On wrenches I use at work daily.

Anyway, looking back now, I should have got two sets of metric wrenches as the standard wrenches are pretty much useless. The standard ones have never been used, and have basically been sitting in my toolbox for the last year. I don't have the packaging, or a recipt, but based on everyone's personal experience do you think they would have a problem exchanging these for another metric set? They don't seem to like me there although I have spent thousands of dollars there, probably because they think I'm some punk kid (I'm only fourteen) so I might need a story to go with this. What do you suggest I tell them?

Thank-you in advance!

You have had these wrenches for over a year, they have been opened, and you don't have the receipt. Now you expect the store to take them back and exchange them for a different product. Not only will they not take them back (unless you are real lucky) they shouldn't. It's not the store's fault that you don't have a use for the wrenches you bought. It's stuff like this that makes it hard for people with legit complaints to get stuff warrentied or exchanged. I don't mean to be a d*ck but come on, you made a mistake accept it. Go buy a second set of Metric wrenches, and if you really don't want the SAE set sell them on EBAY.

I ended up going to the store, and they took my standard wrenches, went into the back and brought me out a brand new set of metric wrenches. I realize it isn't the stores fault, and I wasn't implying that it is. I realize I made a mistake, but like I said I am fourteen years old, and I don't necessarily have money to buy more tools when. The two wrench sets are identical, they cost the same, the only difference being standard vs. metric. I figured it would be worth a shot, and I would have completely understood if they didn't do the exchange. Luckily they were nice enough to exchange it, as they know I spend a lot of money there.

I've been very happy with the Customer Service at my local Canadian Tire. My advice would have been to go down and ask as there's nothing to be lost in the attempt...but you've already done that ;-)

It's good to hear they were willing to help you out on that...it was definitely a margin call!

Technically they should give you store credit for last sale price, and you would be SOL if they aren't on sale that week. But I dont think just exchanging them will be a problem. Just say you got them in the past month, and picked up the wrong set by accident.

Yep, I told them the truth. I said I bought one set of each but another set of metric would be more useful. She called the manager and after talking for a few minutes she said no problem and that she would do the exchange. They always give me a hard time because I'm young and they assume that if I am carrying a bench grinder or something I must be stealing it, because I obviously have no use for a bench grinder. Then there was the time they wouldn't sell me a propane torch, the time they kicked me out of the store, etc. Ugh, such a pain.

Yeah... the torch thing doesn't surpise me. Here in the states I have heard that some places will card you if you're trying to buy a torch or fuel...

Probably with good reason... when i was a young lad I used a torch plenty of times for things it wasn't originally intended for

Glad everything worked out for ya. It never hurts to ask, and always remember, it's a huge corporation that would bang you in the *** with no lube in a split second. So, it's not always bad to get the upper hand for once.

Hey Octane I have one question for you, if you're only 14 where are you getting thousands of dollars to spend on tools, I want in on it.

Willy Victor,

I race karts across North America. When I'm not racing I'm working at the team shop building karts, engines, tuning, etc. In doing this I can easily bring in $500 a week, which gets put back into racing/garage/trailer 99% of the time. My garage is pretty well set up with everything I would ever need, and I am currently putting together a work bench for my new trailer (with a 1" top, lighting, pegboard, vice, drill press, bench grinder, air compressor etc.). I realize that being young a lot of people assume that I vandalize like everyone else. Apparently they also don't see why I would have any use for a propane torch other than burning stuff, which I can understand. The one we have in town is getting to know me a little bit better but I have still had more problems than you would believe. I was in the store for five minutes once looking around and they said "if you aren't going to buy anything, we ask that you please leave the store". I pulled $500 cash out of my pocket and told them I would buy my air compressor elsewhere, hahaha. Then there was the propane torch incident, in which I ended up getting it. Not to mention the countless "what are you using this for?" with everything from utility knives and wrenches to power tools and torches. It can get pretty aggrivating at times.

I wouldn't say that. Crappy tire's customer service is second only to costco I find.
