Ok this is my first project post. Messing around in the garage i made this candle holder. My wife loves it. But now I need to know how to finsih it.
I have seen some steel with the swirls on it,Im guessing that is done with a grinder. I kinda like that. But my wife wanted to maybe stain the inside to add some color when it burns. I have no idea what to do with it. Clear finsih, etc. What would you guys do

Thanks

If you want to swirl the metal, look up "engine turning" as a finishing technique. A scotchbrite pad in a drill, plus some time... I'm a huge fan of that look.

As for color, that'll be tough. You could attach lighting gels (like from studio/theatre lights) inside the holes, which will color the outgoing light, but you'll have to keep them away from the flame.

I would use a silver or bronze color hammertone finish. It's cheap, simple, and has a nice "home" aesthetic. Good luck with your finishing.

Is the back of it open? Or does the candle not go inside? I like it. Grind welds smooth and paint it. Maybe one of those electronic candles with colors?

Any pics of the back? Or with a candle in it? I just found some cool rechargeable candles at home depot. 6 pack for $21 with a charging base.

Great little project...definitely a bonus that the wife likes it.

How about some stained glass on the inside (not the all-cut-up-and-soldered-into-a-pattern sort...just the plain colored glass, before it gets cut to make stained glass.)

You could give it a rusted finish (leave it under a tarp near muriatic acid). You could spray paint it. Take a walk down the spray paint aisle at your local box store...lotsa options out there today.

I am thinking a more modern-vintage look (my term). Paint it a bright color. My wife likes to take vintage metal items and paint them a bright color. Seems to be a trendy thing. I built her this table and painted it a glossy blue.

The most over built candle holder, weighs about 10 lbs. but at least the dogs tail cant sweep it off the table
