canless lights

I'm planning out my garage reno and my contractor wants to go with canless lights. Its a vaulted ceiling with the height ranging from 9ft up to 16ft at the peak. Has anyone here had experiences with them? Did you go with a flood light or narrow beam? Was lighting sufficient for doing work in the garage? TIA.

I just installed one of these outside my man door in the soffit. Its about 14 ft up. Im pretty impressed with it. Lights up the entire side of the building. I am going to install 3 more above the 18ft door in the front. The color is adjustable and can be dimmed and canless.

Awesome! I have halo canless thin tophats in the house but didn't think they'd be sufficient. I'll check these out

I’ve been using Torchstar canless LED’s both inside the house and now putting some in the garage. I really like them and the light is even with absolutely no flicker. I did get insulation contact rated though. 3000k inside and 5000k in the garage. I’ll use a lot but I think the more there are the less shadows there are.

If I follow your descriptions, this will work if you have a hot and a neutral in the existing switch box

I've used them. They work well.

My big concern is replacing one that fails. You'll most likely have a hard time matching it. I ran into that problem in my garage. I bought some, then wanted to add more about 1 year later, but was unable to find them anywhere. I had to go with something that was close, but not an exact match. The color is a little different too.

With cans, you'll just need a new LED bulb.

Dont forget that with a can light you could be loosing insulation thickness in a vaulted ceiling. You want canless lights.

I had one fail and the manager at Home Depot exchanged it as a defective unit.
