If you buy a Weber grill at an independent hardware store, you get stainless steel cooking grates, flavorizer bars, etc.
If you buy the same model at HD or Lowe's those parts are porcelain.

I agree here that it is far fetched that a company would make 2 identical p/n with different guts. From a supply chain perspective this would be a mess, as well as service/warranty info.

Separate line for "cheaper" stuff, sure, but it would probably have a diff pn.

I know my husqvarna trimmer from Lowes has a different model # than they do from a dealer. I don't know what's different, but it is identified differently.

If nothing else I'd expect a company like Milwaukee to clearly identify an inferior product versus a superior one in some way just to protect their image.

I don't believe they would use identical part numbers on items using different components but I have no reason to doubt my Uncle about the separate line. He was a salesman for Gast compressors and visited many factories across the country. It's 2nd hand information so take it for what it's worth but if you look at the big picture it seems pretty plausible to me.

Not true, at least in any recent time frame. All the cheap webers come with porcelain regardless of where they're purchased unless you specifically pick a model that has been upgraded to stainless.

I can believe the same Model Number but the part and SKU have go to be different.

In my thinking the Model Number is like a Model of a car. Yes you bought an F-250 Pickup Truck, but the cost varies wildly and the basic truck to a crewcab with a diesel engine.
