Hey guys I was looking for a craftsman socket set that is 1/4drive with 12 point deep and shallow metric sockets. My local store doesn't have them and I am having trouble finding them. They need to be 12pt for a connecting rod that I am replacing.

Craftsman doesn't make a 12 point 1/4" drive metric socket. At least it's not in the 299 piece set that has "every socket they make".

Funny they still make standard 12 points

How old is your metric 12pt set? Can you post a pic?

I am not a expert on all things Craftsman, but I have not ever noticed a 12pt metric 1/4" drive set in all the years I have been shopping there.

Thanks

Let me see if i can get a pic. There at work. They are about 15 years old. At the time they didnt make them in deeps. Hence why i only have shallows. I guess its a good thing i learned they nolonger make them. Guess ill be more carefull to not break them.

I gotta ask, what kind of engine is this. Granted I sure as heck haven't been into every kind, but I'm trying to think of a rod bolt that wouldn't require more torque then that 1/4" drive could handle. Thanks

Its for a Honda gx160 waterpump I worked over. If it holds up with moving liquid fertilizer that weighs 12lbs a gallon I'm going to make one with a 3in pump for moving water. This is a 2in pump on it now. Aftermarket billet rod came with 12pt bolts and requires 170in ftlbs of torque.

Cool, thanks for the info. Best of luck with your search, I just went over my collection and don't have any metric deeps in a 12 point either, but do have a full set of sae. Funny part is in 30+ years of tearing stuff apart, have never needed it nor given it a thought. This will never do, now I'm gonna have to find a set..lol. :p

blackhawk Nice sockets I have them in 1/4 12pt fractional and will be adding deep to them but the link is for metric. I know trident-supply will do everything they can to get you the best price on them

Most of my Craftaman sockets are from the 1980s. I have 1/4" SAE sets that are both 6 point and 12 point, in both deep and standard depths. My 1/4" metric sets are only 6 points in both deep and standard depths. I can't say that I've ever seen Craftsman 1/4" drive sockets with 12 points.

Sears has gotten REAL flaky in recent years. A couple years ago I downloaded the PDF inventories of several socket sets including the 299 piece socket set. It doesn't show any 12-point 1/4" drive metric sockets at all. But what also makes them flaky is when you enter "Craftsman (model number)" in a search you can't even find one listed on their website that they supposedly have in the 299 piece set inventory.

I also noticed they don't even have the PDF inventory files anymore. :dunno:

i have 12 points at home but they are snap-on. honestly ur probably gonna have to go to snap-on,matco,mac for 1/4 drive 12 point metrics. but i don't know why you can't just use a 3/8 drive socket for a rod bolt.
