Can't Find Thread On Defective Wiliams Ratchet Screwdriver

Just recently a member posted a pic of his Williams ratcheting screwdriver that had a gap between the handle and direction selector. I saw one on Amazon Warehouse last week for dirt cheap so I picked it up and sure enough it has the same problem. Just wondering if the OP returned his and this is the same one, or if it is a common thing now. Not really a big deal it seems to function just fine, but I will take it apart tomorrow and see whats up. I'm wondering if the retaining clip was installed in the wrong groove.

Also, this is my first SO/Williams ratcheting screwdriver, but I can tell you right now the Husky I have is a bit smoother and the bits are in a revolver style clip vs rattling around in the handle like the Williams. It's also a lot cheaper. I'm happy with both though considering what I paid.

I don't have the Williams ratcheting screwdriver (I do have several Snap Ons) , but I have read some reviews saying the same thing about theirs that made me think it's supposed to be that way.

And here's a picture from another reviewer who wasn't happy with the gap, among other things, but like you, doesn't say that it's causing any problems with it. There's replies to his rant saying theirs is like that also.

Edit: My Snap On's are soft grips and there's hardly any gap, well, a little, but if I google image search Snap On Ratcheting Screwdriver I'm seeing quite a few of the Snap On hard handles that have a similar looking gap as the Williams pictured above. IIRC Williams tools often are based on previous versions of Snap On tools.

Oh look at that... Thanks for taking the time to search that!

Do the Snap On's have a bit holder in the handle? I thought that was kind of crappy that the bits just bounce around inside the handle. The Husky I have has a revolver shaped cylinder that holds like 12 bits if I remember correctly.

Yeah the snap one have that same end cap for bits like your Williams. I don't even carry anything in it and keep the bits in my tool box.

Yeah even the Snappy soft grips (full size) just have a hollow handle the bits bounce around in (same goes for the Gearwrench look-a-likes). The stubby doesn't have bit storage.

No they don't. Unless that has changed in the 3-4 years since I bought mine. And my snap on drivers have the same gap.
