So i have a S831 snap on ratchet I decided I want to clean it and lube it since it sounds pretty dry inside. I took the 2 t15 screws out and can't get the cover plate off I have tried slapping it against the bench putting it in a vise and jerking it up and down no luck what soever :dunno::mad: advice ?

I might be talking out my *** (wouldn't be the first time) but aren't those sealed? Or am I thinking of the S80's?? Do you have an arbor press? That'll get her apart, but you might damage it in the process.

thread the screws back in 2-3 turns and give them some light taps.

Case,

I'm not familier with the S831 ratchet. Can you supply a couple of photos of the top and bottom of the ratchet head?

I'm guessing your cover plate is rusted or corroded to the ratchet recess. You might try soaking the ratchet in a 50:50 solution of Acetone and Power Steering Fluid overnight. Then, in the morning, take a 90 degree (shaped like an "L") precision pick and stick it thru one of the screw holes in the coverplate and pull the plate off. That should do it for ya.

Wrap a rag around the head of the ratchet and then tap the square drive on a wooden board. The rag should keep the guts from being lost.

i slap them gear down on the anvil a few times and the rusty ones come apart rather easy.

This^^^^^^

The 800's have an o-ring all the way around the cover plate and they can be pretty snug coming apart sometimes. Also, cleaning the o-ring groove and the o-ring before reassembling will help it going back together.
