Went to the barn to get tool..man door lock tumbler turns freely to the point where the deadbolt should retract, but wont budge. afraid to bust key.
It was binding a bit few days ago..Now stuck
I suspect frost heave.. :(

Any suggestions?

No other easy way to get into barn.. :(

Thanks

If frost heave has jammed the door, use a thin pry bar to either raise or lower the door, prying between top or bottom and frame to relieve some of the pressure as appropriate. Spray some lubricant into the deadbolt recess to help it move easier also.

You were right.. Did at top and it worked..
I ground out frame material, so ok now..

Reminder: If its sticky at 32, it will be stuck at zero degrees :)

As a PSA to others that are having a pole barn built:

A lot of manufacturer's don't specify on their drawings to shim the splash boards so the concrete doesn't go under the sill.

I used concrete board to ensure the slab heave wouldn't be an issue. Cheap and effective.

Good one :)
I imagine a whole list of concerns/considerations for temperatures that low..
Not only for doors, but plumbing, septic, etc..
The cylinders on my storm doors got sticky at about -15 the other day.. soft close.

Just to add to this for anyone who it may apply to:
This is good if you don't have too much heave. But if it moves the 2 to 3 inches I see at my shop when temps get to single digits, then the swing of the door may be affected if it swings over the slab. To combat this problem, we poured a separate 4' x 4' slab isolated from the main slab pinned to the footers / frame below the door frame.

How does that work?
Seems like that would just bring that section of the wall up with it
