If I try marking forums read, I get this message:
Can't mark forums read?

Click on forum tools then mark forums read. If this is not working I need more information.
I tried the link at the top of the page under "Quick Links" and the one on the main forum page at the bottom.
The one in the Forum Tools works it looks like, but then I need to go to each sub forum and click it to mark all read, so it's not working properly for the main ones...

Try clicking on the mark forums read in the Q&S section under forum tools and see what happens.

Did it work ? Also are you using a phone to access the forum ? I need more to go on to work out what is going on.

FWIW, I get the same message. Chrome + Vista. It also doesn't work on my Iphone.

OK, instead of using quick links try as I suggested to use forum tools and see if that works. You should be able to mark as read the whole section like the section you have this topic posted in being the Q & S section.
Edit: I can see now what you are doing as I get the same message. If you try what I have posted above you will mark forums read. You need to do as I have posted via forum tools and not via quick links. You can only mark each sub forum as read.

Don't feel bad. Finding Waldo is easier.
To the left of your username, when reading this thread, you will see:
The Garage Journal Board > To The Editors > Questions & Suggestions > Can't mark forums read?
Select the "Questions & Suggestions" sub-forum. From there, you will see Forum Tools right where HOTFR8 said they are, and can mark that sub-forum as read.
For my purposes, that's pretty useless though. How many sub-forums are there here anyway?
Anyway, if you have a smart phone or tablet, get the Tapatalk app, and you can mark the whole Garage Journal as read from there in just one click. That feature in the web version has been broken for years.

Hasn't worked since I have been coming here to GJ, which is now well over 10 years. Not a new issue. I have pinged Admins a few times, posted in this forum on the same issue and a couple of others, and have never gotten a response, except, "contact an Administrator."
I do use Tapatalk on the phone, and you can mark the forums read through that app. It's the only way to clean the forums of unread threads here that I have found.
