I need some cant. shelving for the shop at my office. Anyone ever made their own? It doesn't need to be industrial size just big enough if you know what I mean. I've shopped around for new and used and it is very pricey and most of what I find is huge and way overkill for what I need. Anywhere to find some plans or pics of something you guys have built? Thanks alot,

Jimmy

I am terribly sorry - I can not recall where this picture came from - I always thought it was this forum, but maybe not. I appologize to the owner of this picture. It was previously posted on the web, so it's public.

I thought this was a very clean looking material rack - but it uses a lot of material in it's construction.

One thing I noticed - the back tube is bowed forward from the welds applied to the front of the tube. It looks like it's square at the base. If you are going to do this style, 'break it's back' when you weld the shelf supports to the vertical tubes to compensate for the bowing that the welding creates. It doesn't take much.

That does look like alot of material, alot of time and effort went into that.

CF I was looking for something more along the lines of this only not quite as heavy duty.

What I've come up with is a couple of pieces of box tubing and an x brace to tie them together. I'll post something up when I'm done, it'll be a few weeks though. Thanks,

Jimmy

That is some nice shelving, would like to see one of the bottom shelves just for steel stock, but I guess you can customize to your liking.

On a different note, just because the picture was posted on the net does not make it public. The original owner still retains rights to the photo. :)

find an auction house that auctions off bankruptcy and stores that are closing equipment. I have seen alot of bulk shelving from all kinds of places including home depot store they closed to open a bigger one a block away and they bought all new shelving and auctioned the old stuff.. good luck!

i found a grocery store closing and bought a bunch of shelving from it, mounted along one whole wall of a garage. very handy and could be adjusted.
