Just looking for a quick verification. Picked up a 5hp 1ph motor, with a bank of capacitors. Wasn't able to see it run before I bought it. Trying to make sure everything is hooked up correctly before I smoke something by accident.
Wiring diagram is not helpful for this. All it lists are where to put L1/L2, and T1, T4, T5, and T8, with the usual note to reverse 5/8 to spin the other direction.
Motor is 240V only, single phase.
I have four wires coming out and hooking to the capacitors. Two are labelled (5 and 7) and two are not (arbitrarily labelled A and B in the drawing/tape). When disconnected from the cap banks, 5, 7 and 8 all show continuity, and A and B show continuity.
For the run capacitors, B is on the same "side" of the capacitors (at the end of the chain) from 5. The three oil-filled are connected positive<->positive, and negative<->negative jumpered up each side (I understand they are not polarized, but just for point of reference used +/-)
For the start capacitors, A is on the opposite side of the capacitor from the jumper, and that jumper comes in on the opposite side from where both 7 connects, and the jumper from the start to the run capacitor. (A-x...x-J) and (J-x...7-RJ) where J is jumper between start capacitors and RJ is jumper from start to run capacitor. X is a blank spade connector.
My general understanding is that the start windings stay energized in this model, with the run capacitors helping. The start capacitors drop out of the circuit, thru either a centrifugal switch/relay/etc. I am trying to not have to crack open the endbells on this if I don't have to at this time.
Anything else I should measure or take a look at before I put this under power? It has a motor starter that will be wired with it, and an overload protection (already checked, that is working correctly).
