Capping off gas line?

Hey guys-

We are finally getting around to getting our landscaping done and one thing that needs to happen before we get the sod down is running a gas line out to my detached garage.

I don't currently have a heater in the garage, but plan on installing one in the future, so I'd like to go ahead and run the line while we're tearing up the yard. Don't have running water at the shop either, so we are going to do that as well.

So, my plan was to buy a roll of 1" poly pipe and throw it in the ground and leave it until I get the heater installed and finish running the plumbing whenever that happened, so the ends of the poly would need to be capped between now and then.

What would be the best route to go about doing this? Just cap the risers and call it a day until I get a little further along?

I ran the heavy 1" black polly for the water line -- and a larger diameter black polly to use as a sleeve for the propane line to my new tank.

We have a new rule that the propane company has to inspect the line before it's backfilled .. so if you can't get them out everything stops. I'm installing all new service -- so when we are finally ready for the tank installation -- the propane company can sign off as we insert the 3/4 line .. they have to do all the connections and install the regulators ... inspect tank and tank installation.

Everything is complicated .. the old days .. pressure test and fill it up.

I would put a gas ball valve on also then a cap or plug.

If you're using anodeless service risers at each end, an NPT threaded cap on each riser is all that is required for now.

A couple of things you might also consider are burying a tracer wire with the pipe so you can find it in the future if needed. Also...if it was me I'd pressure test the line with air before backfilling. PE gas line is rated at 80 or 100 psi depending upon type....but you wouldn't really need to test it that high for what you're using it for. I might go 50 psi for an hour.

I would run the gas line complete with risers and cap them off ,
same as water, run it end to end inside the buildings or whatever your pan is then cap it

This is what I was thinking about doing. Sounds like I'm not alone.
